I was talking to a buddy of mine who is a Det/Cst. with Peel Regional Police, he says they are going to be switching to the new "Hi Cap. Smith in 40" starting in the next few months and getting away from there current S&W 4043(?). This would be the new MP from what it sounds like, he said they were looking at SIG's but chose the S&W over it. I asked maybe S&W took them as trade, he said PRP distroys its old firearms as opposed to trading. Has anyone else heard this?

Would this be the same Peel Regional PD that bought Ruger PC4 carbines instead of AR's because "they were .40S&W and they could use their .40S&W pistol mags in both guns?"
I did not make this up.

So, are they adopting this new pistol as is without testing, or is there some formal testing that is going to be done? I'd be a little reluctant to adopt an unproven design just because its the newest on the block.

I read the same report on the AR forum, I think that weapon was a preproduction unit in 40 S&W. From what some of the oldtime peel guys have said it's S&W with them or nothing (yet there tac team has HK SOCOM's). My buddy said it's a high cap 40 from S&W. Insof far as buying ruger carbine's, I have never seen one with them. Lot's of MP'5s and Bushmasters at the Airport though.

What a stupid waste of taxpayer's money.

I spoke to a Cst. from Peel's tac unit last night, he did confirm that they will be transitioning to the 40 M&P in the next few months. He did test fire the unit and was very impressed with it.
