S&W MP9mm longevity

I just hit rougly 31k of rounds through my 2.0 today. 2-3 months ago i did a bit of a torture test. I let it go just over 8000 rounds without a cleaning. A few small drops of oil every 3rd range trip. Didnt get a single problem Until i got a stovepipe and cleaned it after that. I havent changed a single part, in mags or gun yet. I'm shooting my coated lead reloads and a few hundred full power defensive rounds per month. Im on track to hit 45-50k by september with it. Itll be a year old then.

The late Todd Green fired over 62,000 rounds through an M&P before the slide cracked. It still continued to function with the cracked slide.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you can shoot enough to wear out the gun, you can afford to get a new one.

I have more than 25k through a gen 1 M&P 9. I stopped counting or keeping track 2 yrs ago.....

I called up Murray Charlton to order some parts, I was informed that S&W recommends swapping the recoil, spring after 50k.....

I swapped out the recoil spring about a year ago, and notice no difference what-so-ever.....

That's over twice the lifespan of a typical HK spring...20K rounds or so.

I started ding the 5K change thing, then let it go 10K - I still have the old springs, because I never saw an issue with them - good to know I wasn't hallucinating. Mag springs are more critical/failure prone.

Mine should last forever, it sits in my safe rusting and never gets shot.
yes, rusting, the only gun in my entire collection that has rust on it, and it's supposed to be a stainless slide.
gun is junk.

I guess you missed the definition of “stain less”. LOL

Maybe shoot it once in a while and maintain it properly?

It has a broken extractor after 75 some thousand rounds, which I'd failed to diagnose during major international travel to Czech for EEO and a few other countries. Once replaced that particular gun went to over 150,000 rounds as have most of my CZs (9 of them). The broken extractor was caused by a case failure with match ammo in CZ, the gun had a few issues at that match, but then ran fine after a quick inspection in the safety area. I returned home a few weeks later, did the TLG course and it popped up part way through. Once replaced it was fine.
The S&W on the other hand started rusting before it's first trip to the range, kept in the same safe as the rest of my guns, including my Desert Eagle, which according to the internet, is known for rusting. Yet, it didn't. Once cleaned and lubed the S&W continued to be a problem child, accuracy was ####, trigger was ####, trigger spring broke, extractor broke, mag catch broke. Mags, garbage, but that's because of our 10 round law and the crap mags we get as a result. Rear sight was not centered, striker plunger thing had such bad burrs it would jam. The gun kept rusting. Gun was sent back, new barrel was installed, some sort of surface work was done to the slide, it rusts less now, is slightly more accurate, and still has a sh!t trigger. I keep it because I still get the odd student who insists on wanting one and wants to try it out (so it does get shot very seldomly). I'd rather see them shoot a 5946 or just about anything, but they get what they ask for.
Gen 2 M&Ps aren't much better.

So would you say the same thing about the Shadow2 due to the occasional slide cracking on the 1st Edition of the gun? I doubt it. To suggest one of the most popular pistols made to day is represented by your one experience is disingenuous in the extreme. My Gen1 Pro has close to 10K on it and it runs like a clock. No issues. My original FS M&P continues to function perfectly after 10 years of service. I have a friend in the US who has close to 100K of competitive shooting on his Pro with no issues.

Take Care

Bob
ps My new love is the PPQ Match. Off a rest or freestyle it will shoot with your Shadow2 out of the box with a faster reset and no lengthily DA pull to deal with.
