S&W revolver mainsprings: interchangable?

Which, if any, of the S&W mainsprings, are interchangable between different models? If not, why?

In other words, will a model 29 mainspring work in a model 17, or model 12 mainspring in a model 15, or a model 10 spring in a model 17, and so on...

while I found that to work for all my older smiths, the spring on my most recent one -a 625-8 with the lock safety and MIM parts did not interchange very well with the others- the strain screw had to be longer in one than in the other for it to work.

I''ll check the part numbers on Brownells diagrams
