S&W Revolver values?

I've developed an interest in revolvers in general lately and S&W in particular (mostly because I like the looks and don't want to spend the big bucks on a Colt;) ). I've got a 1983 586 no dash and a 1956 K-38 target masterpiece so far. I'm thinking the next step might be a Model 27. Any ideas what a decent condition "shooter " (slight bluing wear at the muzzle ...bit of a drag line) should go for? I'm not looking for collector grade with the box, tools etc.

There is a 27-2 on the EE at $1200 but that seems high compared to what my other two were bought for (600-700 range). Is a 27 100% more desirable than my other guns? Is that a unreasonable price or about what they are worth these days? I like the idea of a classic gun but might I not be better off to buy a new 627PC for a couple of hundred more? :confused:

Life would be easier here in Canada if we had an auction site like Gunbroker where you could research past sales and get a good feel for fair market value:(
 
That 27-2 would be worth the money if it was in unfired or very very low round count with the original box/papers. Its also difficult to compare the US market to ours. Keep an eye out for a model 28; same gun just matte finish.

You don't see many 27-2s on the EE, and they are considered to be one of the finest of the classic S&W revolver line--I don't think the $1200 is too far out of line, but that's collector value, rather than performance value, if that makes sense. If I was looking for a revolver to shoot at that price range I'd go for a PC one myself (or, as SM mentioned above, wait for a 28-2 on the EE...they should be around the same price as your other revolvers).

At least it's not $3000-$5000 like Pythons are listing for!
 
The "small bore" N frames usually go for less than their bigger N frame brothers, 1200 seems a bit high for an older smith unless you are a collector looking for a perfect in box safe queen.
 
I too have a taste for older Smiths. I looked at the 27-2 you're speaking of, it's nice.

At $900.00, I likely would have bought it. $1200.00 was a touch high for me. (but that's just me)

I'm sure that if it's not a $1200.00 gun, it will be one soon enough.
