I have been asked by a friend to give him an idea of what his pistol should be worth.

As described to me over the phone, it's in good working condition, decent finish, definitely not a pristine example.

Described as being a Second Model Hand Ejector.
Caliber is .455

Unfortunately, no pictures yet, and no info on markings.

There are about 90 brass, and a set of reloading dies with as well.

I found a listing from Marstar that seems a little out there, at $2800. Even in mint condition. Beyond that, I see the odd one on the EE at around $500.

What amounts, and in what conditions, are they actually changing hands for?

Thanks.

Cheers

Unless it has some historical importance, $2800 is way out of the ball park. Second models are more common (and in 455 to boot), and not as desirable from most collector's points of view (although I know a guy in MT who specialises in nothing but). Depending on condition, $300 to 500, with really, really clean examples going around $700 or so. FWIW. - dan

I approve Dan for is evaluation. I had a 98% one, with a chip grip panel. Nothing special about it, was a commercial Mdl, and I was able to get $600.00 from it.

The S&W hand ejector Mk 2, came in 2 types. The military marked ones are the most common. The civilian ones, no military marks, are rarer, about 1,000 were shipped, according to Smith and Wesson. I had one of the civilian ones.

Hi i just bought one from Collecter Souce for 450 including taxes and delivery to my door buying bullets are impossible so i'm loading my own the only marking is a little crown with the number 30 on the bottom of the butt anybody know what means LOL all serial numbers match even the grips i think i,m going to like shooting this 92 year old gun..
