I have had the recent urge to get me a wheel gun. I am mainly looking at the S&W TRR8 and R8

What is the difference and which one would you guys choose?

I thought one didn't have a permanent rail?

Don't think I'd buy either. I don't really trust aluminum alloy.. I'd buy either some other model 27 version or, if lightness is wanted, a 66 (which I have).

A nice pre lock 586 or 686. Could have it machined for 9mm brass Though he trr8 looks tacticool. Also check out the 929.

.5 inch groups at 50 yards by guns n ammo mag on their review of the R8 way back when it first came out.

You know the gun can shoot and anything else is your own damn fault.

Most factory rifles can't even match that.

Smoothest and most accurate revolver I've ever shot, one of the guns that is on the permanent "Never sell," list of mine.

alloy AR15s are not wearing out..... You will never wear out a TRR8 unless you spend millions on ammo.

Here is my trr8 with wood grips. Its a fantastic gun and well worth the extra coin.

Whats different?
Sights- gold bead with square rear vs R8 white with V notch rear
Barrel shroud-R8 premant lower rail with out Ejector rod window vs removable with ejector rod window
Finish-R8 semi gloss vs matt finish

OMG that is beautiful.

The one reason I am leaning more towards the trr8 is because I can take the rail off.

Where did you find the grips and we're you able to find a holster for it??

Ya that is a beauty and i love the grips on it. I'm generally not a fan of the performance centre stuff because most are totally fugly but that is definitely the exception (ok v-comp not bad too)

There Ahrends grips, got them from Brownells and I got a sweet holster from Garrett Ind.

With respect, a revolver frame is under a great deal more stress than the AR receiver. I'm also just fuddy duddy enough that I want steel handguns besides. I won't even tolerate an alloy frame pistol. Titanium cylinders on other Smiths make me wary as well.

On a related note, for curiosity - How long is the blast shield on the R8 top strap rated for?
