Actually, S&W V-Comp Question

Had a look at some .44 revolvers on the S&W website today. The regular Model 629, with a 4" barrel, has an overall length of 9.63" / 24.4 cm - prohibited. However, the Model 629 V-Comp, also with a 4" barrel, has an overall length of 10" / 25.4 cm. I'm sure this is due to the barrel compensator. (I downloaded the two photos and compared them at the same scale, the V-Comp is longer). This means the barrel length is actually about 4.3" / 111 cm - restricted, instead of prohibited. Unless, this doesn't count because the barrel compensator is removable... does anyone here know this, either way, for certain? (I'm sure some here must know) Also, if the barrel compensator was permanently attached, would that make a difference? It would be nice if that gun was allowed here...

Thanks,

Wolf

the compensator is removable. Here is a shot of it without the compensator and with the attachment that fits over the extended barrel. This would put it in restricted territory.

So….if the comp is removed on the 629^^ there's still a barrel sticking out making it restricted?
Strange 'cause if I remove the comp on my 460V the barrel measures 4"….5" with the comp on.

Some barrel extends past the underlug into the compensator. You can kind of see it here. I would say it is not really comparable to your 460V.

Yep... that's all I needed to know. Thanks.

ps - I wish S&W would make that clearer on their website. I tried emailing them, but they suck at replying to emails...

If you pick one up, definitely let us know how you like it. That is my favourite performance centre revolver by far.
