S&W Victory Model rechamber???

It's been done, but you get over-sized chambers that swell the brass when you shoot it; slap yourself in the head for thinking about it :D

You can change the cylinder. All you have to do is headspace the barrel to the cylinder and make sure that the timing is correct. I happen to have a few S&W cylinders for sale also. PM me if you want to talk more about doing it.

Is changing the cylinder of the Victory Revolver to one chambered for the .38 Special enough? You still have a frame which was heat treated for .38 S&W pressures. Once converted someone, someday, may try to feed .38+P's, to what would appear to be a strong robust .38 Special.

My vote would be to leave it alone.

The US issue Smiths were in .38 Special, so standard cartridges should be fine. Use of +P loads in any of these older .38s may not be a good idea.
A large number of these revolvers were rechambered to Special to make them more salable. The cases acquire a slight bottleneck appearance on firing. One of these things that CAN be done, but really shouldn't.

The Victory model and the Military & Police model are both K frame. When ordering replacement cylinders for "both" these models in "38spl" the part number is the same. The Victory was available in both 38s&w and 38spl. Also the Military & Police was available in 38s&w. So the cylinders are interchangable provided you have a gunsmith install it and check for proper clearances as you would if you were replacing a cylinder or changing caliber.
