Without getting flamed, could I ask for some help from someone who would have access to the serial numbers for S&W. I have a lead on a S&W Victory Model in .38 Special, serial number is V4199xx. Would you be able to tell me the year of manufacture? Thanks in advance. :)
 
You can try asking here. ht tp://smith-wessonforum.com Some of the members there really know there Smith and Wesson. They have some members that keep a data base on Victory models.

The S&W Victory was mfg. with a V pre fix from sometime in 1942 untill Dec. 1944 at # V769000 . After that the pre fix SV was started. Only a factory letter will get you any closer. 1943 would be a good guess! ha Hope this helps you.
 
Thanks for the replies. I tried to look on the site listed above, but haven't been "approved" yet. Boy, do they ever hand out terse answers!! I am reluctant to ask any questions there.:p:p
