S&W vs Colt vs Ruger in .357 magnum revolver

I know you said revolver .. but Coonan has done another run of their 1911 chambered in .357 ... maybe something to consider ...?

Oh my those coonan's are interesting. Ever shoot one? Do the hold up? .357 is my favourite round, and 1911's are one of my favourite pistols.

Did someone just make me buy a new pistol? Hmmmmm...

That's a Smith and wesson 19-3.

Gorgeous old world manufacturing. Pinned and recessed and that old style deep high gloss blue that looks like your looking into a 3 dimensional mirror. The newer 66 series can't compare finish wise.

The R8 on top is a nicer shooter overall, but at over double the price for a performance centre.

Chuck3436 nice guns. What is the middle one? I'm a fan of the half lug stainless revolvers and hoping to find one some day.

It is a sweet gun. Very accurate and surprisingly easy to shoot.

Talked with the owners of Coonan one year at Knob Creek. Latest guns use a browning cam rather then a swinging link, nice setup if you've got bigger hands, the grips are really deep front to back because of the length of the 357 round. Still, one would be fun to own. They've got the mags working well too, which was always something of a bugaboo with rimmed rounds.

My axiom has always been: S&W double action revolvers / Colt autos.

Has worked pretty well for me in lots of years of handgun owning / shooting.

I do like Ruger .22 autos, though. And Ruger SAA wheelguns.

It doesn't feel as deep as you might think. I have average size hands and it does not feel like an unusually big grip compared to a regular 1911. I also like the length of the grip. Overall it is very nice handling gun.

Pythons were always more money then the equivalent S&W (which would be the Model 27), but not exorbitantly so. You paid a little extra for the handfitting, and the fancy schmancy vent rib, not to mention the tapered rifling in the bore, and the fact that there were just less of them around and (in the beginning anyway) they had a nicer polish. It's why they cost more then the leaf sprung Model 357 Colt as well. In terms of function, a good 27 or it's pre-war version are just as nice a revolver. No one's killing zombies on tv with those though, sadly. - dan
I definitely could agree with this observation of yours. Although I don't own a Model 27, I do own a 1940 made S&W Heavy Duty.

I have one of those too. A prohib of course. Three 27's; 3.5", 4", 5" and a 4" 28. I do like the N frames also have them in 41 Mag, 44 Spec, 44 Mag, 45 ACP, 45 Colt and .455. They are a very nicely balanced firearm. Have Colts in most of those chamberings too, so comparisons are easy to make. - dan

Ive been shooting GP 100s for 8 years and i still stand behind mine. I started with a 6" model with a wolf spring kit.
After dry firing it thousands to smoothen it out as well as train my finger I shot PPC and even IDPA very well with it.
The pull is about the same weight as my friends 686 but a little longer but shooting any D/A revolver takes practice.
Single action, i could keep it all in the black at 25 yards just as well as other revolvers too.

I now have a 4.2 and i dont seem to shoot it quite as well but i keep it all on the paper.
You just need to break these revolvers in more than the smiths.

The only thing i really dont like about the GP100 is the grip. The hogue hits a nerve in my hand so i had to
dremel off the hump on the back of the grip. I wish there was a company that made this grip for the GP100
Or is there?

As for colt king cobra or python ive never even seen one
