According to the Smith & Wesson website, they have two warranty repair centers in Canada: M.D. Carlton in BC and Wortner Gun Works in Ontario. Has anyone ever sent their guns to either of these places? Were you satisfied with the results? How long did it take for them to process the warranty claim?

I have a 686 that appears to have a canted barrel (rear sight has to be drifted almost all the way to the left for the gun to shoot point of aim). I'm wondering if I should bother with the warranty service or simply look for a local gunsmith who could fix the problem?
 
Don't know about S&W in particular but I've found that if the issue will not be much $$ to fix, its sometimes easier and faster to get a trusted gunsmith to do it.
 
It has been a few years, but I had very good dealings with MD Charlton. I couldn't tell you what their current turn around time is like, give them a call.

They do have a very good reputation for S&W smithin'...

That's what I was thinking too. What about Wartner Gun Works? I've never heard of them before. Has anyone dealt with them?
 
Hi!
Send a 25-7 to change the trigger and the hand on it, return was fast and job well done. Send a PC1911 for a slide stop change. was dissatisfied because was suppose to change for a blue one, My pistol being stainless, and it came back with a stainless one, cosmetics only, but whwn you pay 22 hundreds for a pistol, you want it to look as you decides to purchase it.
 
Wortner's is excellent. He's been around a long time and has been doing S&W's warranty work with their full support. We've had a number of customer guns go back to him for warranty work and my understanding is that the results have been very good.

I've not heard any negative comments over the years (other than sometimes they are busy and people always want their repair done "NOW!" :) ).

Charlton does terrific work, including some of the best action jobs on S&W, the only revolver I've seen that was smoother than a Charlton job was a Behlert, and then not a huge amount smoother. Given Behlert's reputation in the US that's high praise.
 
Wortners hands down for me
I am SO LUCKY, i live 4 blocks away !

He is super busy though, no doubt about that
I deal with any repair there- pistol, rifle,shotgun
 
Send the gun to a factory authorized warrenty rep. Charlton or Wartners. If it's a factory problem, don't pay another gunsmith to fix it. I have always had good luck with Charlton's.
