i went into al simmons today and looked at a SA 1911 GI. nice looking pistol. i want the mil-spec myself. wondering though their price was $899 for the GI. seems a little steep since it's a very basic model and the website for SA has an MSRP of under $650. think i'll go norinco instead. for their asking price i could buy an sti spartan with all the extras and a couple boxes of ammo

I paid 650.00 or so for my last one. The SA GI models have been hard to come buy lately. I will give you a tip. There is a mint GI AO 1911 at epps for 650.00. It is a new model production after Kahr took over (better quality control). Nice pistol for the money.

Cheers,

Pocket

Go norc, and add to it later, and you will have more money for ammo too, 45 acp is getting pricey, and as i always say, whats the difference between a 100 dollar date and a 1000 dollar date, answer your broker

thanks but who is AO?

The Auto Ordnance mfg GI 1911A1 'clone' seems to be a very nice example. Comes in GI trim with the brown plastic grips & lanyard loop on the mainspring housing. They do have the Series 80 type firing pin safety in them, though.... :(

Why would they install Series 80 safety in the USGI clone is beyond me.

My thoughts exactly..... Perhaps they had lots of spare parts already milled up & ready to build from..... or the company lawyers convinced them it was a good thing to do from a 'risk management' perspective.

Kinda defeats the USGI 1911A1 clone thing, though.... And kept me from buying one "just because".....

If your going Mil-Spec and not going to mod it, I vote the AO or a Springfield if you can find one at a decent price. Maybe keep an eye on the EE for a lightly used Springfield too. Anything you are looking for will eventually show up there. Del-Selins has a new AO 1911 mil spec for $629 on there EE add now.

thanks for the advise. i don't want a series 80 though. think i'll just go norinco and get it parkerized and possibly tune the barrel ramp. still be much cheaper and peobably just as good. i just didn't like the $300 markup

The SA 1911's must be pretty durn good..... They don't seem to last long when Gunnar puts one up for sale on his used page.

That's because Gunnar's checked them out, not much chance of getting a 'bad' one when they've been inspected and tuned.
