I am not sure what grain of bullet is in the 7.62x51 first of all, and my gun room is a mess so I don't really want to pull one and reset my scale to find out

What experience do you guys have in terms of similar ballistic performance to factory 308 offerings ? Yes, I know, 308 does not equal 7.62x51, let's not spend 5 pages talking about it. I am wondering though if you have found a factory 308 cartridge that shows similar trajectory to the milsurp 7.62 ?

$12.50 a box! I'm getting BURNED, where can you find it that cheap?!
:D

Bass Pro Shops at the Vaughn Mills Mall about 10 minutes north of T.O.

Sometimes driving through hell on Earth has its fringe benefits. :D

.303 and .30 Carbine are also sold there. It's about $15.75 for the .303, and it's the cheapest around.

since when is 7.62x51 not 308?
millions of G-3, FN, StG 58's must be wrong chambered.
sure glad you did point that out to me and eveybody who uses metric ammo in imperial calibers.

Hmm.. Imagine throwing a rock at a barn door... ;)

Ah that explains why you "feel" that people should not be allowed to use Semi-auto military rifles for hunting. You do know very much about firearms!

It is much clearer now.

.308 is to 7.62x51 as .223 is to 5.56x45 close but not quite identical.

S/a Sh!t

They always have ammo.... just not always what you're looking for.

The SA ammo isn't as bad as most people say. It will still shoot well enough for practice groups, sight ins, and general plinking.

In a perfectly tuned m14 norinco m1a springfield etc. S/A will shoot consistent two and a half inch groups at a hundred when the ammo is sorted to matching over all lengths. The longest rounds tend to shoot a little better. I have shot one inch with U.M.C but cant find 1000 rds to confirm.

In general, it is hard to find different ammo that will shoot in the same place, sometimes even from the same brand, in the same weight.

Just buy a large amount at one time, and re-zero every time you get new ammo.

Bass pro gets umc in about once a month, and gets sold out in about 2 days. The .223 is generally about $5.70/box, and they have it in cartons of 10. The .308 is $12 something. People are usually buying 2-3 thousand rounds at a time. They got some in this week, and it's probably gone. I generally phone every couple of weeks and when it's in grab a brick or 5. The guys say they need to go thru the whole permit red tape thing for every shipment or they'd have it in weekly.

Whats the best 308 ammo to use in them M14s ?

I never see any 308 Nato stuff around anymore.
Last gun show i seen a half a box of some Remington 308 ammo in the entire show.
whats the most accurate?
