SA/DA vs SAO

I am looking at picking up a Sig Sauer P226, but for the life of me I can't make up my mind between SA/DA or SAO. Lay some knowledge on my fellow nutterz! (Btw I am still fairly new to the handgun world).

And because looking at guns is fun.

SA/DA then you can shoot either, or, learn to shoot both well and you will be comfortable shooting anything.

All 226's are DA/SA unless you spring for a Legion SAO or a X5. If you have the cash I would recommend X5 without hesitation. If you want a Legion, I would get the SAO version.

and to try and better answer your question: the Sig SAOs will typically have a lighter / cleaner trigger pull, so they "tend" to be better for pure target work, everything else being equal. If you want a duty type gun or are thinking entry level competition like IPDA or IPSC, SA/DA might be more what you want.

I you want to compete in IPSC Production division with a SIG, you will need to use the DA/SA model. The SA only model would have you in Standard division where you'd be better off with a 40 S&W so you can shoot Major power factor (which most everyone else in that division will be shooting).

Major Power Factor? Please, if you could, explain what you mean by this?

To make it as short and sweet as I can.

IPSC power factor = bullet weight x speed / 1000

production division, power factor 125 = minor
standard division, power factor 125 = minor and 170 = major
classic division, power factor 125= minor and 170 = major
open division, power factor 125 = minor and 160= major

3 scoring zones on target, A, C and D
minor is scored A=5, C=3 and D=1
major is scored A=5, C=4 and D=2

Production division, first shot must be double action 5+ lbs ( basically stock 9mm's da/sa and stryker)
Standard Division, first shot can be single action. (mostly .40's SA with some mods allowed)
Classic division, must be 1911's, ( 9mm minor 10 round mags or .40 and larger major 8 round mags)
Open division, kinda speaks for itself.
