Not to mention most of the pistols traceble to them are either a) in the ground on the Eastern Front, B) sitting in a storehouse somewhere in Ukraine or melted down by the Russians or c) in the hands of a handful of collectors with deep, deep pockets.

It was a NSDAP pistol IIRC anything of the Einsatzgruppen would be extremely rare as they were a fairly small group

One of the biggest lessons in milsurps is buy the firearm, not the story. The vast majority of collectors are amateurs who are passing on false information that was told to them, not intentionally, but one of those “fables” they heard. You need to spend a lot of dough on reputable reference books and keep up to date mostly via milsurp forums these days to be able to wade through the bullsh*t.

Lesson learnt. As mentioned, I’m not a collector of any type or era. The history of my guns basically say “ brand new” , “like new” or “ 1-2 previous owner with low round count”... which in itself could be a story!

That SS PPK just stood out as I remembered thinking what the owner of the gun might have done and that it kind of related to the OP’s dagger history.

Going back to the dagger. Peter, I asked a friend and he says, the NM is the region, perhaps Naumberg, and then the number could be his seniority out of total area membership or something similar. The dagger may not be mint but the region and number make it interesting.

I agree. It has interesting features but it's a $700 blade at best
