So I'm reading an article on the Socom II in GWLE and it had not too bad reviews. Outside of the Restricted issue, any owners care to "chime in" on overall satisfaction?
What is the going price in the EE?

Haven't seen too many in the EE... they retail about $2300 if you can find them.

Reviews are mixed on US forums. SA has lots of QC issues. Not so bad if you live in the US and can take advantage of the awesome SA lifetime warranty. Not so good for us up here.

I'll be the first. Americans can't buy cheap M14s like we can from Norinco. So Springfield sells what they feel like making. Very expensive for not a whole lot better rifle. Yes, there are obvious differences but unless you like paying lotsa bucks for a Made in USA rifle, probably not worth the Restricted hassles.

I know, I've had both a SA M21 and a Norc in a SAGE chassis, however I kinda like the look of the Socom II. Restricted issue is a non issue for me.The LMT MWS is a "home run" for sure, but there is just something about the M1A look.

SA rifles are still much better than any Chinese copy. If you really, really believe otherwise, then you are really, really misinformed or in denial... that being said, for the dollar, Norincos are fine for blasting. With a lot of upgrades they can become even better.

If you're looking for a 16" .308 carbine, there are better options.

I'd only suggest if you specifically want an M14 platform.

these are awesome little rifles. a bit on the chunky side, but my 130lb wife can shoot the shat out of it so it ain't that heavy. if it's too heavy you need to hit the gym. sitting at almost 2000 rounds with not one ftf, shot everything from federal to south african surplus, it eats it all with no problems. decent hearing protection is a must with the deuce, she has a mighty bark. tack driver she ain't, but that is not its purpose in reality. it will do 4 moa if you do your part and that's about it, the front post would cover oprah's ass at 50 yards. it will ring 10 inch gongs at 300 meters all day long in my wifes hands, i'm good for about hitting them at 200 (she's had lasik:D)

no complaints at all with customer service at SA either, those guys are top notch. i needed to replace the front sight and stock. rather than send my rifle to them, they sent the parts to me, and allowed me to ship my defects back to them at my convenience. (the front sight i believe was damaged in transportation, the stock had a small crack, it was the old pebble finish stock, no issues with the newer style) locating mine was a trick, i dealt with John Williams and still i waited over 14 months for it and i paid 2100.00 for the beaut.

good luck and save up for ammo if you pick one up, they are a joy to shoot.

Thanks for the comments, I think I'm going to buy one.
There are some good prices down south.
How hard is it to get the 5/10 rd mags? price?
What about all this AIA mag talk as well?

AIA mags are legal to use in the M14 platforms although some times they do pop out as there are no front hole that ingauges the op-rod spring guide in the front of the magazine. 5/10 magazines are easily baught from any dealer that sells springfield stuff, although the price does varry. Also for more infromation about this type of rifle platform check out the main rifle forum located right beneath this 1 on the main forum page.

Really like the look of the soccom 2 in the blk/wht urban camo. I see wolverine has them but only in the black. Anyone have one or know where to get one. It's gonna be my next purchase forsure.

Never handled the SOCOM II, but I've fired the SOCOM 16. (Same thing, but without the rails, basically). It was pretty damn cool. I liked it. I don't see any reason not to like it. I think the crazy chassis systems are a little overkill. It's fine in its stock configuration, but personal choice, really.

With all the "drama" in the US with the DOS and export permits, are these things stamped .308 WIN or 7.62 NATO?
ANSWER: Confirmed by SA in the US, .308 WIN.

The Norinco is a better rifle overall than the SA.I have both, the Chinese and the SA incs. The only difference is in the warranty. You will not need it with the norinco, but you will with the SA.Mine has been back to the factory a number of times.
