I love the M-14, and the 308 is my favorite caliber by far, made a lot of reading lately about restricteds, while waiting for my RPAL, for sure i need handguns, i need a couple of AR-15... But were i am not sure is in the 308 dept, i am on the fence, do i get a top of the shelve SR-25 or AR-10 SASS NM, those a range proposition only or on the other hand do i get a SA M25 M1A White feather ( or M21) that i can use anywere...

I know that the Stoner design is up there but the M25 ( or M21) according to my reading would be close or on par accuracy wise with it's more modern cousins and if we talk cool factor, i think a M-14 design is very popular and charismatic ( even the chinese Socom 18 are exciting to play with)... Restricted all the way yes... But somewere when it come to the 308, it feel like a sin to keep prisoner of a range... In my book that is... JP.

That's the reason I'm not really interested in Restricted's.
I can't afford that kinda money for use on approved range's only.

Restricteds were on my agenda for a while now @ 60 years old, it was time to get many new wonderfull toys, but the range only proposition is a great luxury for those restricteds but pretty sure i will have a lot of pleasure with them... JP.

I can't tell you what to get, but here are some important facts to consider:

1) The white feather isn't sold anymore. However, you could build one from a supermatch or an M21 and a mcmillan stock.
2) A top of the line, best of the best, tricked out accurized M1A/M14 rilfe will at best be 0.75 moa. Your paying a lot of money to get the accuracy of a factory bolt gun. There is nothing wrong with this if you love the M14 platform enough. A NM AR based rifle will surly be more accurate than a top of the line M14.
3) It will be crazy heavy. If you plan on using it for hunting, expect a 14-15 lbs gun.
4) If you buy an M21 rifle and put a mcmillan stock, please sell me the old M21 stock. :)
5) Consider getting a LRB M25. They have an integrated scope mount onto the receiver.

If you honestly plan on just shooting it at the range, perhaps go with the AR platform. But if you think you might shoot it out on the bush, than get the blackfeather.

I am always thinking we have this beautifull land to shoot up Jarnac and the fact i am getting restricted, i know they will never be used over there, like my Nemesis, i would like to shoot a super accurate SA up our range, that why my investment toward a top of the line M-14 sound very practical, i love my NM M1A... Just can imagine if i go to the top with this platform, there could be awsome pleasure... JP.

I've been thinking of the same subject Caramel. The LRBs have a good reputation, but I'm leaning towards AR-10s myself mainly due to ergos and cost.

I agree with Gobc about the LRBs regarding how the rail is integrated into the receiver. You'll still need a high cheekpiece to get comfortable using a scope.

There's a nice picture here of an LRB with JAE stock: http://www.reddnobb.com/#!lrb-m-25-super-match-308-win/zoom/c14cx/imagedud

"...white feather isn't sold anymore..." That's because, like the short barreled rifles, they were marketing things.
"...AR based rifle will surly be..." 'surly'? Nope. Just different.
"... AR-10 SASS NM..." No such thing as an NM AR-10. The current incarnation of AR-10 is a poor copy of a real AR-10. Aside from them never being used by the U.S. military.

I have a NM AR10 (and it's dressed up like a SuperSASS to boot). Just sayin'...if anyone is interested (an Lord knows I am...), there is an 'A' model SuperSASS (takes Magpul Pmags) on IRG's U.S. website for $2701. Yummy!!!
