I've never seen one in person and from the pics I see, many appear to not have a rear sight (or perhaps its just not visible in the pics, I don't know). Do some of these old style revolvers not have rear sights? If not, how do you aim them and how do they compare to shooting a revolver with both sights?

This is not a dumb question, just a good observation.

A single actions of that particular time period design(Colt) usually just has a grove cut into the back strap as a rear sight. Earlier muzzle loader pistols had the rear sight grove in the hammer, so once you pull the trigger, you loose your rear sight.

Single action are available with rears sights, but modern reproductions of older firerams tend to be more or less time period correct in their design and functions. Personaly I like the Ruger Bisley single action with the longer grip frame and adjustable sights. The Colt or Ruger designed single action grips are just too small for my hands

SA might be a stronger design than some DA revolvers...

but DA is easier to load and doesn't require you to #### the hammer each time you want to fire the gun.

"...Any advantages to a SA over a DA..." Not really. It's kind of like switching between a standard transmission and a girly automatic. You change the way you drive slightly.
"...are just too small for my hands..." That's what aftermarket grips are for.
