Ok as some of you have read I'm looking to build a 350Rem Mag. What I want to know is what other SA thumpers are out there and your opinion on them.

.358 Winchester is basically the .35 calibre equivalent of the .338 Federal. There is also the .35 Remington. Other than that, I can't think of any other medium bore cartridges that would be suitable for a short bolt action.

Barnes shows a .350 Rem Mag load with their 200gr TTSX at 2943 fps out of a 20" barrel. That would give you a +/- 3" PBR of 283 yards, not to mention +3800 ft/lb of muzzle energy. It sound like a pretty stout load out of such a handy little package.

That's what I'll be working on next month before I head out for moose in September.

SA thumpers? 33-350, 33-284, 33 WSM/SAUM, 350 Rem, 35-284, 35 WSM/SAUM, 9.3-350, 9.3-284, 9.3 WSM/SAUM, 375-350, 9.3-284, 375 WSM/SAUM, 416-350, 416-284, 416 WSM/SAUM, 45-350, 45-284, 45 WSM/SAUM. 338 Federal and 358 Win, while good cartridges, aren't really "thumpers" (except in a handgun). - dan

Short Action "Thumper".

How about the .308 Win loaded with 180 grainers for a SA thumper?

I just scored this vintage Win 670, all set to go, for less than a Savage series package rifle.

I might try some 180's to see if I can get it to "thump". :p

Oh, the heresy of it all. One can never find a good lynch mob when you really need one. :D

Ah yes.... the "DRS" custom....

Recently swapped this stock out for a TI take-off and had the 20" bbl contoured to a smaller size. Much better, but no current pics yet.

Any rifle like this in 308, 338Federal or 358Win would be perfect for most hunting here in Canada.
