Guess?
Hey guys.

I still haven't picked up my first pistol/revolver and to be honest, the major deterrent is range membership. I belong to a club where I can get my ATT, but they do not have a range . I really like the Pietta revolvers, but should I bother if I don't plan on Cowboy shooting? The Glock 17s in 9mm are not much more than the Pietta's, and just as affordable as a .357. What do you think?

Since they're all ultimately just expensive paper punches, go with what you like. The G17 will let you shoot IPSC/IDPA down the road, if that's of interest. 10 rounds in the mag means less time reloading than 5 or 6 beans in the wheel. On the other hand, the single action has all that history behind it, naturally points very well, and doesn't have you chasing brass in the snow if that matters. Get 'em both !!

+1

on go with what you like.

Better yet get both. ;)

NAA.

if you plan on reloading as well( and who doesn't these days) get the revolver- any revolver- your back will thank you later as well as your range sessions will last longer- i started off with a 45 acp, went that way for years- currently have 2 45s, 2 9mms and a couple of redhawks in 44 mag- the one that's my shtf is a 45 b/c i was trained on it and it's all muscle memory - the one i prefer to shoot- the redhawk in 5.5 inch- no body says you have to use full house loads, either, bit the automatics dictate to you as to what loads they will digest in order to function- i was already running full house in 45 when i got tired of looking for my brass, so that's why i went 44 mag- the 357 would have been an insigificant step up- the only thing i found was the saa was intolerably slow to reload , and that's why i went redhawk- and you can go sa with a da

Cowboy action shooting seems like one of the few shooting sports that continues to grow, most shoots that I go to have increased amount of shooters each time. This may be regional, but if you try it, you will be hooked, so I would suggest a revolver that would work for that.

The very reason I haven't tried Cowboy Action - if I get hooked on that I'll be screwed for sure. I've seen too many guys in gunshops who started out with an innocent 'sixgun' and before you knew it they were looking for coach guns and repeating rifles!!
