I was checking out Sabot Reloading Pro, and they have an interesting product. Remember the old Remington Accelerator ammo? It looks like you can roll your own using .22 caliber bullets and these discarding sabots.

Some of the load data is approaching 5000 fps with a 55 grain bullet.

Have any of you tried it? How did it work?

A buddy of mine used those years back. 22 Accelerators from his 30-06. The idea was neat. He was an above average shooter with his standard 30-06 loads but I never saw him hit anything with the Accelerators.

I have them and have shot them in several rifles, they are just the thing if you like groups that have been shot with buckshot.

They grouped poorly in all of your rifles - at all distances? What chamberings? Did you do any load work up?

was told the same by an older friend of mine , fastest miss he could shoot.another one of those "seems good in theory" ,maybe tech has cought up & can get it done now.

I qdont think 5000fps is even REMOTELY possible.

I believe the sbots leave plastic fouling in the bore, and dont give consistant velocities.
At least thats what they did to my rifles in the 80's.

As in poor accuracy?

As in load a bunch of rounds as carefully as you may, some will go right where you point them and some will go all over. No telling which or why. But that's just what I heard, didn't try them myself.

I tried some when they originally were marketed by Remington.
I tested 30-06, 308 Winchester and 30-30 Winchester [In a Marlin 336A, 24" barrel]
The '06 and 308 stuff was a 6-8" at 100 proposition.
Surprisingly, though, the 30-30 shot quite well with them, around 1½ - 2 " at 100.
I didn't consider the 30-30 a varmint gun, so shot off the ammo and forgot about it.
Every once in a while, a bit of the ammo still surfaces, though.
Regards, Eagleye.

My pre 64 m70 shot them into 1.5 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. My son's Sako manlicher in .30/06 loved them more and he could get 2" for 3 shots at 200 yards over several boxes he bought.

Others i spoke to that tried them were uncertain of their group sizes with rounds they were hunting moose and elk with, so i suspect comparisons were really not easy.

I know my Shien barreled m70 would group into .5" on centers off the. Bench, and my son with his Sako always has been able to do a bit under 1moa with his Sako
