My beloved 3 1/2 year old Brittany Spaniel was struck by a car and killed yesterday. The driver never even stopped. Fortunately the kids were at school and their memories are untarnished.

She was a tremendous hunter and when at the house was the most loving pet I have ever had. She will be missed.

Oh no.. I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't understand how someone could do that and not stop.

That's the ####s.

I was looking at my old hound yesterday (she's 10 now) wondering how much time I have left with her.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Any idea who the arsehole is who didn't stop?

No idea who hit her. And there could not be any mistaking where she lived. We're the only farmhouse and there isn't another place for at least a km either side. They most likely knew her as well... I live in a very small community and she was always on the porch waiting for me or the kids to get home (or for a barn cat to make the mistake of wandering into the yard)

I am saddened by your loss Woody... It is probably just as well that you do not know which of your neighbours struck your dog.
I would probably harbor animosity towards someone who hit my dog... and did not stop!
I like most dogs better than most people.
I hope you can get another pup soon. Not to replace your dog... only to succeed her.

I too would like to offer my condolences.
It is hard to lose any pet for any reason, but more so when it is like this.

I too find it odd they would not stop.
But they may have dealt with this before, as the one time I had a dog run out into the road and I clipped it pretty good I spent quite a bit of time looking for it, as I saw it run off okay, but felt it may have been hurt.
So I called a friend with the police and asked what I should do now, and he said forget it, the dog should not be running free and I had no responsibility to anybody.
Granted he gave me credit for stopping and searching, but told me that was entirely up to me.
But not to lose any sleep over it.
This of course was in a residential neighbourhood as I live within the city limits.
So no excuse for not stopping, but if it has happened before, he may have got the same advice I did.
I just happen to care too much to not stop.

Very sorry to hear about your loss, I hope your kids arn't in too bad of shape over it.

I have to say that I would be very tempted to hang a sign on the road telling the driver exactly what I think of him/her; small town its just a matter of time before the person uses that road again.

I'm there with you... We had to put down a good friend a couple weeks back and I never thought that it would affect me the way it has... I miss her.. The house is too quiet without her..

Already crossed my mind....

Woody... Sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Are you getting another pup? I think a pup is the only way my "soft" heart could heal from loosing a hunting companion.

Cheers and Chin Up

Edited to say "Woody's looking for another dog to take the place of his britanny." I just found his post... If anyone can point him in right direction, I'm sure he'd be gratefull...

But I also can understand why some-one would not stop having seen what might happen when a dog owner goes over the deep end when it really wasn't the drivers fault! To the point a cop that happened along told the dog owner to keep quiet or he'd advice the car owner to sue her for damages to the car. You really wouldn't know what to expect from an owner, I myself after seeing what could happen probably wouldn't stop if I was sure the dog didn't make it:( If the driver was a neighbr they're probably feeling bad enough, & as BREDD says you may harbour unwarranted bad feelings.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

The only bad thing about those 4 legged guys is that the vast majority of the time, we outlive them.

It hurts like hell, I have lost a few now. After each one, I swore I wouldn't go through it again.......but go figure, there are two more knuckleheads in my back yard right now.

Life just wouldn't be the same without them.

sorry to hear that. it's hard to lose a pet. i lost my dog a little over a month ago. not a hunting dog but a good pet for 12 years. still seems odd to come through the door and not be greated by my dog.

sorry for your loss..i agree with bigredd...get another.. the sooner the better...its not to geta replacement to hide the hurt...its to give another good dog a great home..
what was the dogs name?

Thats sucks man.....even an "I'm sorry, I hit your dog" would have helped. Take care telling the kids. Thats the roughest part I am sure

sorry to hear that...a good dog is a family member.....best thing to get another dog. Kind of a compliment for your Brit; you want to get another dog right away cause the Brit made you realize you can't be without a dog....says a lot for the Brit.

Dogs don't intend to cause their master pain, so don't grieve too long.
