Sad day in my house...

Her name was Cher. Thanks for the positive feedback folks... I do need to get another dog. A Brit or a Munsterlander (2nd choice) but they are rare in these parts.

Tonight I chatted with the kennel where she came from almost 4 years ago and they just had a litter last week. The litter is actually related to my Brit. They are all spoken for but the mother is going to be available in January. We'll see what happens.

Ironically, my wife took awhile to warm up to getting a dog. Now she is almost as keen as I am to get another! Now to get her shooting....

Sory about you loss. I had my Golden Retriever killed on the edge of my drive way by a bunch of idiots. I live on deadend road and my dog would stand at the end of the drive to see who was coming up the hill. I caught the little ba#@$% a week later and royally reamed his a$$ out.

There is just no excuse for anyone of good heart not stopping to help any dog they hit(unless on a busy highway where human life is endangered by doing so)It's just the right thing to do!

They obiously don't have chidren or pets of thier own!

Sorry for your loss!!

Bob

Sorry to hear that! It's amazing the bond we develop with our pets. They become part of the family. Take care.

Dave.

Hit and run

Sorry to hear about your dog i know mine is my best buddy, she is an english pointer (8 years old) i will be heart broken when she leaves, i hope by old age. Could'nt imagine her been run over that would devistate me.

Woody, sad to hear. I hope you get another dog soon to fill the void.

Everyone else, there are plenty of reasons to NOT stop after hitting a dog.

I live in a small community as well. I ran over one of my neighbors cats and on another occaison, a small dog.

With the cat, I didn't know who it owned it, but it was right out front of ahouse, in my neighborhood so I was pretty sure.

WIth the dog, I called the owner and said I saw it get hit. (By someoen else)

Frankly, in neither case did I want to deal with a distraught family, nor did I want to be forever known as "that ####### that ran over fluffy." Especially as it was not my fault that thier animals were running on the road.

It's the owners responsability to control thier animals, I almost drove off the road trying to avoid the dog, I was pretty pissed off...To the point where there was a good chance that I had I delivered thier dog to them, I probably would have made the situation worse.

So it's not heartless to not try to locate the owners if the animal is dead.

No words can ever say how you feel.
My 1.5 year old Border Colie had a tumor growing in her chest cavity which made her stop eating which in turn started to destroy her liver and Kidneys. When we put her down both my wife and I were completely over come with emotion. Even my 10 year old dog isn't the same after she left. But I know when the time comes for my older dog to pass on I know he had a great life and yes we will be sad but at the same time feel like we have done our job.....gave him a wonderful life. The young one she was too young to die but she still had a great life and we still miss her.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that when a life that is dear to us is taken suddenly it is harder than if it is taken when we all should die...old and feeble.

Sorry for your loss, my thoughts go out to your children.

Even though you live out in the country, I would consider buried electronic fencing to perhaps keep the dog from running out onto the road.

My cousins Springers are pretty much good dogs too, but one day one of them went chasing after something and ended up in front of a car, yep he got hit, and they have spent the last year in and out of the vet. The dog survived and is doing ok, but is not the same dog it used to be. He has invested in electronic fencing to protect the dogs from unexpected circumstances.

just my two cents anyway.
