I won't use mine to attach a sling (it has proper studs in the conventional locations) but I should think it will do if one ever wants to tie it into a scabbard as it would be the scabbard that carries the weight.

I don't get the attraction to the saddle rings. Just another dangly thing making clicky noises.

That delete option looks good though.
 
It's what some people use it for now, but I think originally on the old guns it was for attaching a cord or leather thong used for tying it to something on the saddle so it didn't bounce in the scabbard or especially, bounce out.

Not to start this debate. But I think the original purpose was it was tied to the rider (cavalry) and incase the officer was knocked off his horse during battle the rifle came with him.

I think it was Slavex who recommended using it this way while it was still in a Mares Leg configuration. Push against the sling to stabilize the Mares Leg and actually hit something with the damn thing.........

I find it handy like this even with the full stock.

I've used it for a single point since the day I got the RH. I also full stocked it right away so never tried it as Slavex suggested. I got rid of the loop and just use the stud to hook to.
