Hey guys,

My wife and I went to the range yesterday to pattern her new 20ga 870 for turkey hunting coming up. She wears glasses and always has trouble with irons. Turns out she has trouble with just using the bead on the shotgun as well. She would like to get an optic.

I know the best route is to have a rail permanently mounted by a gunsmith. She doesn't want to go that route, as she would prefer not to permanently mount anything yet as the gun is very new, so she is figuring out what she likes. Also, we probably wouldn't have time to get it mounted in time for turkey season.

Any real world experience with these mounts? Specific recommendations are appreciated. Also, any recommendations for a decent red dot that doesn't break the bank?

Thanks.

Get a B-Square you will not be disappointed. I have had one on my dedicated turkey gun for the last 15 years and it is solid and have never had an issue. I have had this mount and red dot off a couple time and reinstalled and it was as close to zero as one can expect(couple clicks either way) On the other hand there are plastic/composite models that will work I just would be unsure about durability if removing/installing over time.

Keeping in mind I've got a Mossberg, but look into the Mesa Tactical side saddle and rail set. They make them for the 870 aswell and it'll mount to the factory holes on top (if you wife's shotgun is tapped). Comes with all the hardware necessary.
As for optics, a Bushnell TRS-25 is what I'm using. Holds up to the kick and if you mount it without the riser, it's a perfect height for someone wearing glasses (as I also do).
