wow i though i left my home town (cuba) so the political problems would disapear. This sound like the begining of communism, if they can take our guns away and not give us any compensation what else can they take away..... your freedom your life. What relly has me stomped is why are they not banning cars everytime some one gets run over.

Don't go into panic mode just yet. Bear in mind that Dion's "Green Shift" plank; upon which they planned to fight this campaign, is a complete non-starter. Dion is a disaster trying to explain a plan that even he seems incapable of making sense of and which his caucus has very little support for.
Add to this the fact that the Conservatives are now seen as the legitimate "federalist" party in Quebec and that the Liberals are now polling a very distant third in that province, this surprise announcement is intended to be a "wedge" issue that is designed to undermine Conservative support in Quebec and to a lesser extent urban Ontario.
The NFA has been in contact with key CPC members and we have been reassured that there are no plans on introducing further dracconian gun control measures in response to Dion's pronouncement. Mr. Harper has already made his position abundantly clear with his statements from BC.
Remember too, the Liberal's have almost zero chance of winning even a minority government this time around. It is our job to ensure that the Conservatives are returned to power, hopefully, with a majority or, at the least, a stronger minority. Do that and the latest Lieberal "gun ban" is still born, just like Dion's "Green Shift."
So folks, its time to break out the wallets and start donating to the CPC, your local Conservative candidate and letting them know that you are a gun owner and that's why you're choosing to become a supporter. Buy a CPC membership and offer to become a campaign volunteer if possible. We need to get all gun owners engaged right now, it doesn't matter what type of kind of gun you own either! We're all in this together and rest assured, the NFA is in this fight to win!

We're taking nothing for granted Greentips! However, we also need to walk a fine line politically right now. Dion is desperately searching for an issue that will give him traction on the national stage.
The Green Shift didn't do it for him. While this latest gun ban is most definitely intended to be a "wedge" issue designed to rob the Conservatives of support in Quebec, especially amongst soft ridings or ridings where the BQ support is falling; we can inadvertently give Dion a National soapbox and issue he can use to hit the CPC with if we go after him hammers and tongs. That's what he's hoping for. Gun owners come across as the unruly bunch of rednecks, shouting, "...from our cold dead hands," while Dion, in that effeminate, franco-elitist attitude of his, sniffs pointedly and asks Canadians if "those" are the people who should own guns?
Harper has stated his position clearly. Instead of giving Dion the publicity his party cannot afford to buy for him, for now, our time and dollars are better spent supporting the CPC, making donations to the Conservatives and local Conservative riding candidates and making sure the Liberals have no shot of forming a new government.
That said, we're watching developments closely, and when/if we need to mash Dion into a pulp, believe me, I'll be first in line! I've got too many dollars invested in my Swiss Arms and AR-15 collection to ever think otherwise. Right now, we want Canadians and the media to keep beating Dion up about his idiotic and incomprehensible Green Plan and how it will be to our benefit to pay even more for gasoline and home heating even though we're facing the highest gas prices in Canadian history.
I over heard a conversation at my local Gun Shop, about how there was a law that was written referencing a Nato law, a couple of years ago Nato changed this law without anyone in Ottawa noticing. The law would limit the amount of center fire ammo to 200 rounds, 500 rounds of rim fire, 2 pounds of powder, 2000 primers and prohib any firearm that has a military back ground aswell as the munition for these firearms(.223 Rem, .308 Win, .45-70, 9mm Luger, .303 British, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, .30-06, the list goes on and on), aswell it would make it prohibated to own any firearm with a caliber larger then 11mm, ie. 50 BMG, 50 AE, 12 and 20 ga shotguns etc.. Also on top of having to have a PAL to own a firearm you would have to take another course and licence to store this ammo. And there would be great restrictions on who gets these licences, no background for depression, violence, aswell as anyone that is not licenced will NOT be allowed in the residence that the ammo is stored in. The scary part of this is that the Law is already in place but the current Government said that they would not inforce it but they could do nothing at this time because they have a minority Government and they do not have the seats to get the ammendments pasted.
This is scary stuff we need to do all we can to ensure CPC wins this October.

Just out of curiosity........if we do get a major conservative victory and changes are possible, what is the NFA going to push for??? De-restrict the AR series, AK's from prohib to restricted perhaps, maybe the same for FN Fal. What would the NFA push for and what kind of lobby power do you have?
NATO has no jurisdiction over the legislation of each individual nation upon how they govern their civilians within their border.

What they need to do is remove the classes of firearms and let us buy whatever we want as well get rid of the registry. To say otherwise is blasphemy. Don't let them restrict any type and they will have a hard time to put a ban in the future. As well as some have said property rights is pivotal to this.

I would imagine the NFA would keep after the conservatives to dismantle the long gun registry. After that, who knows.
IMHO, support for amending/changing the charter to include some form of property rights would be the next logical step. Putting time and resources into "special" projects like derestricting ARs (or bringing back hi cap mags, repealing C68, etc) would mean nothing without property rights. Liberials will get back into power one day, perhaps with a majority. If that day comes and we're not ready...we're ####ed.

now i'm really questioning whether it was right for me to be a law-abiding citizen, and register my firearms. so, if they confiscate my firearms, what happens to the people who chose not to register their firearms? i already have 12/5 status for my firearms. what next will they do to me?

I've been seriously considering this for some time myself. I sense the day may not be too far ahead when we might actually see this come to be reality here in Canada. But isn't it very hard to move to the US from Canada. I have a friend who married an American, and it was something like two years before he was even allowed to work! Besides, we kind of owe it to our Canadian forebears to stay in the fight in the sense of justifiable dissent against unjust rule, right?
