Just got a message that the piston I tried to order from Brownells is non-exportble as Sadlak is not registered with the US State department (Or something like that) and was removed form my order.

I thought the Piston was exportable?

I also had a cheap tool with the order which was already shipped, and the shipping is a third of the cost of the tool.

Was I wrong or did things change?

I also recently tried to order the cheap Springfield Brake form them as well but that was a no go a well and I am sure tpeople managed to import that as well.

Treeline is awesome to deal with, fast to ship and the guy that runs it is super helpful and quick to reply to e-mails. He doesn't mind dealing with Canadians unlike most dealers I've dealt with on the search for M14 parts *cough, Fulton, cough*........not to mention he's got pretty decent prices on awesome junk.

Did I mention that I like Treeline M14 .com???

I e mailed sadlak a couple of months ago, and they said they wouldn't ship to Canada and told me to order thru fabsports. I haven't gotten around to calling them yet.

If Sadlak's export liscence has indeed expired, their products are not legally exportable from the US.... No matter who agrees to sell and ship to you.

Brownells will not ship some parts to Canada because of ITAR regulations but they will also not ship some parts to Canada because of manufacturer agreements. For example, last month Brownells wouldn't ship me some Butler Creek scope caps because their Butler Creek has their own distributor in Canada and won't let Brownells compete.

I wonder if the same thing is at work here. Perhaps Sadlak won't let Brownells sell to Canada because FabSports is the anointed distributor.

Just a guess.

If Sadlak is not registered for export, it is very thoughtful of folks to announce who will export these goods, no questions asked.

I contacted Sadlak a while ago, in November IIRC...
They a not registed anymore... Terefore, as the Doc and Tiriaq

This is why Brownells will ship you tools from them but no parts

So my guess is the state dept hammer will fall, eventually on some of those "we ship to canada" retailers. It's happened to a GREAT many US online stores that sell accessories and parts.
I'm VERY careful what I order and who I order from in the US. Don't need any surprise detentions by US authorities next time I fly into or through US owned airspace :D

While it's great to announce in the forums when we find items and sources for them.... We would all be doing those businesses a favour and keeping our mouths shut and save the info for private message or email. Not preachin here, just thinkin out loud :D

Lot's of companies in the US just don't want to have to pay the fines, and risk going to jail just for that $35 part that a Canadian wants....

I just don't understand why.

Extreme example:
eg.) ATT was awarded a $100,000,000 fine a few years ago for violations of ITAR

Aparently they paid it, cause they are still in business...

You mean ITT. KIA bad guys were found with brand new night vision in some not so nice parts of the world. Midway was fined a $1,000,000. Leupold got fined too. The list goes on and on. The US didn't start enforcing ITAR till after Sept. 11th happened. The laws did exist before that.
