just wondering if anyone would wanna do a cgn safari been interested for a while in goin to africa for some big five

I'm going for plains game in July, for my son and I to shoot 7 different species, taxidermy, travel, spending money, $30,000 cdn. Big 5 is more.
I think BUG just got back and he quoted something like $18k for a similr hunt to mine.

yea the cheapest your looking at is 10 large they will give u deals on group rates if a few people wanna go

BigDawg,
A big five safari could be done for about a quarter million. Plains game can be done for $10,000. In between there's some room to maneuver.;)
I leave in 6 weeks for a 7 day hunt in South Africa then 8 in Zimbabwe. Buffalo, giraffe, eland, zebra, hartebeeste and about another 4 plains game. Without any extras the tab is already at C$21,000 flights included. An extra buffalo goes for $3000. There's always extras BTW. Tips and spending money, the odd room all add up. It's real easy to spent 30 grand, but it's still worth it!:D You only live once.;)

oh yes indeed i'm prolly goin for lion then if i bag one all start with baboon always wanted a trophy baboon

meh.... I've always only been in it for meat and from what I hear your not allowed to bring it back. So i see no real point in going just to kill... maybe if they use the animals like give it to starving people i would maybe go but i could think of a lot better ways of spending 20-30k...

All the meat is consumed. It's not liek africa has alot of peopel that wil turn down protein.

"...if they use the animals like give it to starving people..." Usually goes to local villages. The carcass isn't just left for the hyenas and vultures.
"...prolly goin for lion..." Think in terms of $2500US per day with a 21 day minimum. $52,500US(58 grand Cdn as of today). Plus trophy fees, etc, etc.

It all depends what you want to shoot. Buff in RSA will run you a pretty penny but in Zim they're only around 7 or 8K for a 10 day hunt, day rates and trophy fees included. The upside...it's cheaper, natch. The downside? You're in Zim and the likelihood of getting your head lopped off by some goofball is higher.

Charlie, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

As Dogleg said a big five trip would be out of reach for many of us. If you want to hunt dangerous game buffalo is the only thing over there that could be considered affordable. Even lion hunting can run upwards of $25,000.00 USD just for the cat!

If a guy keeps his ear to the ground, there are cow elephant hunts you hear about from time to time. Hippos would be a lot of fun to hunt on the ground, but a 21 day license isn't very cheap, and with all the game a 21 day license allows, the trophy fees could drive the cost of the hunt to $100K in short order.

Zim is going to be the cheapest place to hunt, and the most dangerous. Mugabee probably won't take kindly to anyone culling his troops. Tanzania is among the most expensive - and the safest.

Leopard is another of the Big Five that is do-able. Leopard hunts can be put together in the the same price range as buffalo. Bear in mind that the "Buffalo quotes" thrown around are decidedly on the low end of the price range. Also bear in mind that just because you go leopard hunting doesn't mean that you are going to get one.
Just for Schitz and giggles here is a picture of what I believe is one of only two Black rhinos shot last year. The trophy fee alone was, brace yourself, $120,000 US.:( I snapped the picture at Highveldt Taxidermy last summer. Whites are cheaper, but still in the "If you have to ask, fagitaboutit" class.

yea lion is very expensive even if u go with the cheap route i think i may go with a buffalo or leopard hunt and maybe a baboon if i can et arount to it

PS that is a awesome tax... rhino

The rhino will look a lot better when it's finished. It's a wild place, supposedly the biggest taxidermy outfit in the world with 70 employees. There was a full body elephant going up as well.
