Ok...I need some guidance. I know lots of you guys have been reloading a hell of a lot longer than myself so I'm looking to you for your wisdom.....

I have loaded some Hornady 500gr JRN interlock bullets...

Powder:H4198
Primer:CCI#200 LRP
Brass: (new) Starline

I started the charge at 35gr and went to 36gr. I dug, searched and contacted Hornady and Hodgdon for load data with no success. Part of the issue is that I'm looking for a relatively light load so I can seat these big guys deep enough that they will cycle though my lever Marlin. My understanding is the real purpose of these bullets is for bolt or single shot...So either way I found some good info on a forum, the gentleman seemed to have his head on straight and seemed to have shot a good amount of this recipe with success. With that in mind I still don't 100% trust the load...

These rounds will be going through a Marlin 1895 SBL...they are seated to give an O.A.L of 2.565. I honestly just want another more experienced opinion on this load, really my question is ''will my firearm blow up from this load?"

So if anyone has an opinion please share. I appreciate any information. Thanks.

In all honesty, I think you would be better served with a 450gr hard cast flat point bullet. You can obtain these rather cheaply from the bullet barn. That bullet at 1895 velocities will chug straight through any animal in north america.

The 500 gr Hornady is too "tough" for use in a Marlin. The performance window for the 500 grain is 1600-2600 fps. You most likely will not get 1600 out of your Marlin without something coming apart. The 405 Hard cast is hard to beat out of a Marlin lever action. If you want to stick to jacketed bullets the 350 grain Hornady SP or FP @ 1800 fps will get the attention of anything you want to point it at.

That powder charge and bullet combo is a starting load for a Ruger no1 and a max load for Marlin 1895 @ 25,000 C.U.P.

I'd pull the bullets and start again reducing the charge by at least 10% IMO....

I agree other bullets will do almost any job as far as hunting and will even be better performers, but I just wanted to try a larger bullet. I have read all of the arguments against using these through-out doing my best researching others loads for this specific bullet but still I want to give it a shot. That being said I'll take the suggestion of pulling them and do a little more digging and drop the charge. Thanks for the input.
