Safe kisses, errrrr

Besides the club buttstock the Hawkeye is a great gun, mk II as well. The original is a hemaphrodite action; I prefer the SAKO fixed ejector small extractor to claw extractor plunger ejector personally.

I understand that plunger ejectors function fine, I have owned many rifles with them, but something about the spring loaded parts in lieu of a fixed or blade extractor and the extra hole in the bolt face bothers me

The only Boyd’s stock I’ve had required some serious inletting. For a mosin though; might have better luck with a factory rifle.

I can understand being upset about dings from a collectors perspective but personally they do not bother me. The replacement stock thing kind of makes the original redundant for gun locker gazing purposes though no? Different strokes I guess. I only really gaze at my rifles while shooting or cleaning them.

It's transitioning from a looker to a utility rifle. I have others that I can gaze at in my locker.

Just received the Boyds stock. Less than 2 weeks between ordering and to my door! Not bad. The stock looks great. I've had a few Boyds and my experience is that their factory replacement stocks that I purchased (M305, Ruger) are nicer than the ones I purchased for M98, etc.

My friend knocked his brand new Sako Bravarian once with the back of his knife blade just ahead of the rear sling stud right out of the box. Just to get over the first one….

A friend did that once with a new Harley helmet. He dropped it on the floor immediately after unpacking it, said "now that I've got that over with..." I was pretty surprised.

First scratch is this worst on anything. Vehicles hurt in a special way too

Guy I know takes a screwdriver to the paint on the inside/under drivers door of every new or used vehicle he buys. He does it with motorcycles as well, always somewhere you'll never see. "If it's gonna get scratched or dinged I'm putting the first one in myself" is as far as the explanation goes. Supersticious I suppose but he never gets any other dings after that first self inflicted one so it seems to work.

I remember the day I went to pick up one of my first handguns. Was a near mint revolver and I hurriedly slapped the key-lock on it. Got home and to my horror it was the ONE lock that had the bare metal springy pins instead of the plastic ones......scratched the crap out of the trigger guard. NEVER AGAIN!

Have to chime in, with all the Ruger disrespect going around.......Mauser action, wing safety, light, pointable and more than tough enough to handle a safe kiss. In production and shooting straight long before everyone was worried about fancy bedding and free floating. Have a look at my sweetheart, but keep your hands to yourself.

Got her into the Boyds stock. Drop fit, thankfully. I did lightly sand some of the inside action inlets with 320 grit sandpaper to smoothen them up somewhat, but overall a very nice stock and the barrel is now fully free floated. I might order another Boyds in the near future with checkering and a grip cap, but I'll eventually have my Smith hand checker this one. I really like this colour!
