Safe Queens - lets see them

I just have one, a S&W model 29-3. It's a cased Elmer Keith Commemorative. As/my avatar I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting for most of a day with him in the early 70's at his home in Salmon Idaho. I would consider that day the highlight of my years of shooting, hunting and especially years of handgun shooting. That's my only 'Safe Queen', everything else 'burns powder' or it's history.

I've got a few Queens, but in a pinch I'd still be ok with shooting any of them, I just usually tend to have a few that are my 'shooters' and I don't have enough time to get them all to the range as much as I'd like anyway. The only one that I have that I wouldn't ever shoot is my Alberta Python. That would just be wasteful. Especially as I have a Custom Shop Python that I do shoot now and then.

Well, there have been a few posted here or there on the forum, but here are a couple more. It is interesting for sure, Colt did precisely 12 guns in the Canadian Province Edition pythons in 1979, one for each province and territory. I'm lucky enough to have the Alberta gun.

Wow a one of a kind python.....gotta be worth 8 to 10 grand! Awesome piece.

Thanks, but for your pricing somebody would have to want it a lot more than that to get it. I've got lots of other guns I could sell before it, if I really needed the cash. Which I don't. So really, if somebody wanted it really really badly, they would have to offer me stupid money for it, and $8-10K isn't even in the ball park. It's not like you can get another one from someone else....You should have a look and see what rare engraved Pythons with ivory go for on Rock Island Auction. There were a couple one of a kind that went in the $55-175K USD range. Of course they do command a bigger price in the US market than here, and those were pretty over the top special, but all the same.... I suspect it is going to be mine for a long long time though, I really like it. Probably the nicest thing I've ever owned for flat out rarity and beauty (I also have some nice original art, but it's just not the same).

One of the cool things about this gun is it is mentioned in Gurney Brown's Book, Seven Serpents, with full pictures of the Sask. gun, and in his book Colt Python, King of the Seven Serpents, he has a picture of the B.C. Python on the cover. I've spoken to him a couple times about my gun, and got an autographed copy of his Python book. Of course, he got my credit card info in exchange...lol

Very sweet and unique Python you have there. The Canadian Edition Python was indeed a set of 12 Pythons in a custom French walnut case with tools (oiler, screwdriver, cleaning rod, brush and patch box) and a large gold plated maple leaf baring the province name etched on it. As for value, it’s very subjective. A fellow who had the Alberta Python about 3 yrs ago ask for value and a well known firearm appraiser replied $3500 to $6000 Canadian if nib & complete his name was Adam IIRC. I find it a bit on the low side but that was his appraisal in 2015 when Python prices where at the all time high up here.

I personally saw the New Brunswick Python sitting for a while on a dealer’s shelf until it finally sold, the original asking price was $9999 but I suspect it sold for less.

Yes, I saw that one for sale as well, and I believe the Nova Scotia was for sale at that price recently too. Prices in Canada seem to be a lot lower than in US. But trying to put a price on a one of one is tough I suspect. For now it's mine, and I have no desire to sell, so kind of moot anyway. It gets really subjective though, what one person thinks an original piece of art is worth may or may not be what the market says. And sometimes it's worth way more to that one guy who just has to have it. Sometimes I'm that guy.

I hear you T.C. I’ve also been that guy a few times in my collecting years! I have some safe queens that rarely get shot due to extreme rarity/unobtainium status. My only unfired Colts is a scarce 1873-1973 Centennial SAA (1st gen, BP frames) paired set with same serial# in their presentation cases with Samuel Colt portrait and signature.
