Safe queens - shoot them, sell them or just let them sit?

I have two rifles that I like, but never shoot. I take them out on occasion to play with but that's about it. One is unfired, the other is fired but hard to find - neither fills a cartridge gap in my collection.

Should a guy:
-just keep them to fondle now and then?
-start shooting them?
-sell/trade them on something that you would love to take out hunting?
 
I've never bought a rifle just to keep in the safe...until 3 weeks ago. Got a .22 1885 low wall BNIB for a good price, put half dozen thru it to make sure its all good and it went in the safe. Never been a fan of shooting .22 and my eyes don't let me shoot the open sights very effectively. But I don't think I'll lose money on it if I decide to part with it, otherwise I may have to scope it and see how good it shoots.

Well, they both have increased in value from when I purchased them - and since neither is still offered they will go up. But I bought them planning to use them not as investments, it just didn't happen.
 
I put them for sale, if i cant get my price,i just keep them, i have a TRG-22 for the last 20 years, i could not sell for a right price, i just kept it, i dont need the money, i need not to be humiliated... JP.
 
If there's a gun I want that I think I'd use, but I haven't bought it due to room in the safe, the "safe queen" gets the axe. If there's nothing I want (which isn't often), then everything stays. Basically my thinking is that it has to get replaced. :)
Come to think of it, I have one right now that may get the axe due to no usage.
 
Will you miss them?

I sold my M14, all tricked out with a dummy selector, usgi fibreglass stock, garand rear sights, etc etc etc...

MISSED IT SO MUCH, that I immediately bought a shorty to replace it...

And then out comes the NON-RESTRICTED BCL102 & well, the sting is gone... I miss the M14, but I LOVE the BCL102...

So... Will you miss them? If not, time to flog & move on!

Over the past 18mths I sold off everything I wasn't shooting, most were unfired. Yeah, you miss them a little now and then but overall, it's nice to re-invest in things you will actually use. Never looked back!

Over the past two years, I purged by collection to 9. Only stuff I shoot stays. I parted ways with a few very nice pieces, but I couldn't justify keeping them and I needed the money for house renos and a new car.
 
Over the past few years I struggled with what to do with my modest collection. I work and have a young family so they just weren't getting used. I kept my favorites and sold off the other half of them and replaced them with just a few new/used ones that are of better quality . Other than one Savage 99 (which can be replaced) I don't miss any of them. Now I am having ideas about selling some to finance a high end pair of binoculars. I look through them everytime I hunt. I might fire my rifle twice a season in the woods if I am lucky.

Sako increases the price every year on the trg, but people looking to buy one are not increasing their budget like sako does with the sale prices
 
I sold over 20 firearms in the pad year, because I just wasn't using them. The money was used to purchase a few higher end firearms that are used on a regular basis., and that I never would have spend that much on previously, because I already had so much invested in firearms.

On a couple of occasions I've cleared out most of the safe and put the proceeds into a higher end acquisition. It is preferable to have fewer but better guns.

Every gun in my safe has to have a practical reason to be there. If it's not being used or is upgraded out the door it goes.
