I have a CZ Shadow with no decocking lever and want to know what are some safe techniques for decocking the hammer and holstering the pistol if the hammer is cocked. I want to practice drawing and firing first shot in double action.
Use both hands. with the gun in your strong hand, Keeping your finger out of trigger, grip the hammer with your weak hand, pull back/down on the hammer to release the tension on the hammer, while holding the hammer with your weak hand, insert your strong hand trigger finger into the trigger guard, squeeze the trigger, and ease the hammer back up with your weak hand.
With a little practice it becomes a nice smooth process.
Keep your moments deliberate and precise. Do not allow yourself to become distracted or loose concentration.
Practice on an empty gun.
I hope this what you were looking for.
i was taught the same by an RO officer, but he added tilting the gun to the side(ex.pistol in right hand tilt gun sideways towards the left, lower hammer with left hand.
Sure, I keep mine vertical, but have seen shooters do that. What ever works best for you.
The one thing I didn't include in the Origional post was to keep te muzzle pointed down range, and controlled at all times throughout the process.
