I have some old paper (and some plastic in boxes) 12 gauge shotguns shells that were given to me. I'm just wondering if they would be safe to shoot and possibly reliable enough to hunt with considering there age. Most are in excellent condition, and show no signs of being damp. Do these have any collectors value?

If the brass isn't cracked or otherwise showing an issue (corroded etc.) and they chamber (not swollen from moisture) fire away!! If you're not getting miss-fires or hang-fires, sure, use them for hunting PROVIDING you aren't gambling with large predator hunting (and really the only concern here is that the paper hulls may get swollen from moisture while out and about in the field and may not chamber when needed). There is no shelf life on properly stored ammo. Boxes are too beat up to appeal to most collectors .. but ya never know.

Alright thanks for the help. The tiger ones say water resistant. Ill only be hunting rabbit and squirrel.

You probably already know this but if you pull the trigger and it goes click instead of bang keep the fireman shouldered and pointed in a safe direction for at least 30secconds or even a minute if possible. It's possible with old ammo to have a slow burn and delayed function.

Wow , those pics bring back memories.
Haven't seen those paper type shells since I was a kid.

I would keep those paper shells just for nostalgia

if I was you I'd hang onto two of each of those shells . I have never seen that tiger brand before. I picked up a few Imperial shells at a fleamarket several weeks ago . the old paper hulled ones . sometime ago I found some shells made in Russia for Woolco or someone like that back in the 60ties or 70ties. I just love stuff like that . the good old days . not like now when they almost want a retinal scan to buy ammo . I guess I'd better not give the fools in charge any Ideas.

I have been shooting up a stash of old paper Imperials in my 16 ga the last few years. I killed quite a few pheasant and sharptails with them. They are from the 1960's and still work fine.
