Safe to use inertia hammer on BP rounds?

is it safe to use an inertia hammer on black powder rounds?

I don't know... why wouldn't it be? You shouldn't be creating a spark, there's no ferrous metals involved. My gut says it should be Ok but i've never actually thought about it before...

Black powder can be set off by shock. I've put scoops of FFg in 30cal ammo cans before and shot them with an SKS. They go boom pretty good.
An inertial bullet puller doesn't produce anywhere near that kind of shock though. I'd do it personally.

If you have a single stage press (can be done on a progressive)

Remove die
insert shell holder
insert case & raise ram
grab bullet with your favorite pliers /side cutter/ vice grips etc lower ram
bullet pulled

Only drawback is you can't reuse bullet

Yes. A BP cartridge may not fit your puller though. Been a while, but I don't think, say a .45-70, fits in mine.

It's good for up to 45-70 but these are 38s&w loads someone loaded with black powder so just salvaging the brass

I use the method described using you press and a set of pliers (or Whatever) Mostly cuz im too cheap to but a puller
