Safety concern?

Noticed a small chip? On one of the lugs on my bolt. Safety risk? From a .308 mossberg patriot.

Steel is black inside?
Looks like part of where it bears. Contact Mossberg. Supposed to be the toughest steel known to mankind on rifle locking lugs. Ain't supposed to chip.

It looks like it has the same black finish on it. So its likely a facet machined on there (before being finished) to allow you some freedom in your bolt manipulation. As you lower your bolt youre working that angle against the action, pulling the bolt forward as it locks closed.

Its hard to find good google pics of it.. there's always the possibility it was a mistake, if youre worried email them, but its likely intentional.

More like a chamfer, but yes it is intentional.

A chip that is finished the same colour as the rest of the bolt exterior? Maybe think it through a bit .... the answer will come to you.
