Safety Officer Course - Windsor, ON

If it (IDPA) does not interest you why are you making such a big deal of this point! From what I read this is only the RSO course anyway and has nothing to do with the genreal membership, or this action shooting game.

Its a great sport, and what I have seen is a great bunch of guys that have fun each and every time out, and to me regardless that is what its all about.

Sometimes we are our worst enemy, as these guys are giving thier time to help this sport along and doing a dam fine job, I do not question the rules, as now its a privelage to be able to even own a hand guns and shoot action sports in this country.

yup, quite a few, won most of 'em. Any trigger time is good trigger time so when my club puts one on I go for ####z and giggles if there isn't anywhere else to go.

for those in the remedial class...
Without RSO's there is no game to play so as the membership grows so should the amount of RSO's. By putting a trivial age limit on the RSO course the growth of the RSO ranks gets handicapped thus you handicap overall growth.

History has taught us that blind-less devotion to rules ends up in disaster, how can you refine and improve without questioning?

Because I'm not an IDPA member I can't point out a flaw in the system? Sometimes the best solutions come from the "outside".

gee, the way you talk you make it sound like this is the only SO course going to be held at that club.... the flaw to your logic is that the club could hold a course a year, OR multiple courses in a single year. if your not 21 , chances are that you will be for the next course, or the course after that.

I could go on, but that's that.

I'm curious why you consider a rule a flaw? US federal law prohibits any dealer from selling a handgun to anyone under the age of 21. Several states have a minimum of 21 for private sales as well. I know that this is the case in Wyoming, Washington, Ohio and Missouri (there could be more). IDPA came from the US, we use their rules set up to work within their country. Exemptions can be applied for like the use of 6 inch barrels on revolvers. I’m sure if those involved in IDPA Canada thought it was a worth while rule to have changed it would be pursued and an exemption requested. Your suggestion may be valid but as a non-supporting member it would be a kin to my telling the local corner store to start selling lottery tickets to 16 year olds because a teenager baby sat my daughters and they seem like responsible enough person.

To date I have receive no requests from our Club Contacts or Mr. Davd to ask for an exemption to this rule. I doubt that I will. If I do, I will take the matter up with HQ if the majority of the Clubs across Canada support such an exemption.

Aside from personal opinion from two folks who are not members and don't shoot IDPA regularly nothing in this thread indicates to me a ground swell for such an exemption. I suspect there is a reason. I also suspect most of us who shoot IDPA understand why this is the case.

For those members in Ontario, if you are not a SO and want to be this is an opportunity I wouldn't pass up. This course is being offered and will be taught by top notch well qualified instructors.

Take Care

Bob
