Anyone know of a Canadian source or a welfare replacement for a lost M14 safety spring? I'm sure the gremlins will put it back where it fell once I locate a replacement, but at the damn thing disappeared when it fell out of my trigger assembly and hit the ground.

Numrich has them cheap, but they want a Canadian import permit, and charge the State department export permit service charge.

Check out Brownells, do a search for M1A.

For these parts, if the total for all items you order is under US $100 (see the "gun parts" popup on the sight for full details) you shouldn't even need paperwork.

Already looked. Brownells is my first choice for such things, but they let me down this time. The list the Springfield Armory Safety Spring (which would be perfect) but according to Brownells it's out of stock and "Dropped by Factory".

I just received an Email from Springfield Armory telling me that they will NOT sell "replacement" parts for their rifles and they would ONLY entertain the idea of "fixing" parts on a rifle sent to them for repairs.

I am just curious. Wouldn't the safety spring from a garand be the same? The garand and the M14 share a number of trigger group parts. I do not own a garand so I cannot compare the two.

Thanks Hungry for clearing that up on the next page. They are not interchangeable.

The M1 Garand's spring carries out TWO functions. One: will be placing tension on that safety. TWO: allows the really cool 'ping' sound to eject the spent clip, just like in "Shaving Ryan's Private's" or "Band of Brothers".

I was gonna say the movie, "The Longest Day", but I've never known John Wayne to reload any of his shooting irons (rifles or pistols), have you ?

Okay, enough hijacking... back to the M14 safety spring. The M1 Garand's will not fit the M14 trigger housing, nor will it function properly if you do JAM the M1 spring into place.

Peace out!

I've found an interesting... "feature" of egunparts.com.

If I go through the U.S. Government -> M14 section of the website and place the order, it shows as "USGI M14" under the part description. If I copy and paste the part number into the search feature, it comes up as "USGI M14, Springfield Armory M1A". Since another user was kind enough to let me know he orders M14 parts all the time and has no issues, I think the issue was HOW I got to the part, rather than the part itself. So I've put in another order (with the USGI and Springfield Armory description) and we'll see how it goes.

So far no emails telling me that they won't ship...

Try Brownell's

Nope, Numrich canceled the order again.

And as for Brownells, you'll notice there's no 'buy' button on that page?

Mikebaker, pm inbound.

I just ordered a bunch of "m1a" bits n pieces from brownells...... not a problem. Send your enquiries at brownells to the desk of Sandy Moranville ..... she's fricken awesome to deal with.

Okay, reviving this thread for the archives. I bought a few Italian BM-59 safety springs off ebay (from Italy). No state department issues, shipped without incident. Even arrived in a couple weeks. Minor trimming of one of the 'arms' of the spring with bolt cutters (spring steel is tough), much grunting and groaning to get the trigger back together and voila! Working safety again. Total investment... $12 bucks with a few extra parts for future "oops"
