Well - as nobody wanted my Venny FN49, I decided 308 was a better calibre choice. Blame Stevo for convincing me to go in that direction.
I used a Remy 308 barrel, shortened to 20.5" and screwed on an FAL 'hider.......Next to follow is a M4 stock, verticle forward grip and a frikikin' laser to please the 'nutz mall ninjas...:D

Just wondering if you drilled the barrel so the gas system works for it to fire in Semi-Auto or not :)

Sounds like a interesting project, I've got a Egyptian 8mm myself. Wouldnt convert this one though, but this thread does show the possibilities. :)

It's nothing permanent, just a barrel switch........if you have the tools you could swap back and forth yourself once the new barrel was headspaced.

I know its not permanent but my FN49 is all matching including the serial number on the barrel so I figure I'll burn this ones barrel out then think about converting it to another round or just getting a replacement barrel in 8mm :)

What was wrong with it when it was 7x57?
I didn't need another redundant calibre around - and a 308 re-barrel was just one of many projects I wanted to do. Next the search is on for a new stock and I'm fabbing a scope mount for it, as the Echo mount is unobtainable....

I had the chance to fondle, I mean examine DaveGP's SAFN last night. Very nice workmanship. The hand made Echo scope mount was very nice too. Except for the shiny chrome hardware store tension bolts he had on the mount, but I'm sure he'll fix that. Right Dave?;)
