Saiga 5.45×39mm Semi Auto Rifle

Hardly. A manual action receiver being classed non-restricted would be awesome, as changing a manual action receiver to semi auto wouldn't change the receiver which is the regulated parts, but simply the non-regulated parts attached to it. The receiver would still be legal, and as long as the semi auto parts included a 18.5 inch barrel and the proper overall length.... glory.

People just lack vision.

I did not know that!

humm kinda wish someone would have explained it that way originally.

My fault for being an idiot, but we live in a country where even if we walk 678 steps home instead of 650 steps they tell us its illegal and we should be thrown in jail for 5 years. So kinda becomes a reflex where everything is illegal.

I dont remember when I asked if I could do something where the authorities told me: "Yes thats perfectly fine!"
its more like:
Can I wear a red shirt on a wednesday? No! Jail for you!
Can I eat peanuts while eating a sandwhich? No! Jail for you!
Can I watch an american channel on my TV! No! Jail for you!

I think that assumes it would be approved NR without altering the receiver being made incapable of conversion. Namely any opening for a piston being removed / filled in.

If you have tools nothing is incapable.

If the receiver is approved as a non restricted straight pull bolt action, it would mean that it isn't a receiver that is a variant of a prohib named firearm, specifically the ak 47. If that is the case, then converting the staight pull non restricted to function as a semi auto would still mean the receiver never started as a variant of a prohib. And there is nothing prohibited about changing a manual action to a semi auto.

Effectively it would be like using a valmet to clone a galil. It doesn't make the valmet prohibited because it looks like a galil. It is still the same receiver.

Or conversely, taking an AR15 receiver and making it a manual only action doesn't make the manual action version non restricted.

If the receiver is deemed not a variant in the beginning, the modicication won't make the receiver prohib unless you make it full auto. Semi auto would still be non restricted as long as the barrel is 18.5.

That is of course assuming they agree the k11 action ak look alike isn't a variant of an ak. If it is ever made.

Please remind me why Valmets are not prohibited as variants of AK?

There was also hope for a proprietary mag that because it was for a single shot rifle would not be limited too five rounds but would ofcource still fit the converted to semi version.

One thing I thought I'd mention is the that BEFORE the Interarms Sporter project disappeared the price was raised to $1400, the final straw.

Hi guys,
This is my new purchase in back home.Russian Saiga 5.45×39mm semi auto rifle made by Izmash.
Test fired full mag of 30 rounds which went down range flawlessly.
It is fun to shoot rifle with zero recoil. It is the authentic AK-74M variant.I will post more pics soon.

It WAS explained that way in the original threads at the time. Everyone got hung up on price though and could not grasp the possibilities!

Just for the record I was in as a guinea pig till the end no matter the cost. Pretty sad it never happened it would have been interesting to say the least.

This! The hate people had for the project blew me away even in the face of all the potential that rifle could offer.
