Saint Valentines Day Massacre 2-gun Match

Lucrative business these guys!!! They can turn a profit by the dropouts alone!

Our standard policy regarding dropouts is as follows: anyone who drops out, we try and fill their spot from someone on the waiting list. That person on the waiting list then sends their match fee, not to us but to the shooter who had to drop out.

This seems fair as the last thing we care to do is take money from those who don't get to shoot the match. The funny thing is, almost every dropout tells me to keep the money and spend it on the volunteers or prizes, etc. and I usually have to fight with them to give their money back. People who shoot our matches are just awesome that way!

Last February we had zero shooters cancel/no-show...this year we've had 3 who can't make it; two of those spots have been filled and one remains open.

Cbabes, thanks for not letting me down ;) and Trats, thanks for the kind words! We have 11 volunteers who have commited to helping all day Saturday and another 3 who can do part day...to have that much help OUTSIDE, IN FEBRUARY, ON VALENTINES DAY tells you what kind of a crew we have at Galt.

And with that sort of a volunteer base, it's no wonder your matches are the way they are :)

Stupid question from someone who hasn't shot one of these matches when the temperature dips into the -20 ballpark.. To shoot a stage, would you just take off the winter coat or would you just run the belt over it?

If removing the winter coat makes you shoot faster because you're cold then yea...

It depends if you have to quickly switch to pistol. I was freezing at this 3 Gun Nation classifier even with three layers on (my butt is not that big) but if I had left my jacket on I am sure going for pistol and mag change would have created a worse result. So I guess it's stage dependant. Also don't forget the stock length with a jacket needs adjustment so if a fixed stock that's another consideration.

^ that was a damn cold day that day!

And just in the nick of time, the 7.62X39 complete upper donated by NEA arrived! Sure wish I had a shot at winning this!

stupid answer - Layers.
Hopefully, you don't take more than a couple of minutes to shoot the stage. add a couple of minutes waiting for the beep and drop the gloves. Then rush to make your gun safe and get that friggin' coat on.

Thanks guys... I guess it'll be jacket off for the stage... What I got is good enough down to -10 but indoors, no strong winds other than the air handling system. I may have to include an extra layer just to make sure I can survive outdoors.. Gloves are a given, but I may layer them too, so Mechanx on top of my PIG's until I'm ready to shoot when only the PIG's stay on.

Shorts and t-shirt weather Saturday!

It's only -24 here today (not counting the wind chill) so for the set-up and volunteers match today I'm thinking I will pass on the t-shirt and just go with a tank.

This makes 2 years in a row that we've had minus 20 weather for the match...might just change the name to the TCB 2-gun...Tough Canadian Bastards! Or I guess we could move the date....nah ;)

It was a bloody cold day out there today but we have everything set and tested for you all :d
One word of advice, bring plenty of ammo...especially handgun ammo...targets are tough and will challenge you!

Aw come on, it wasn't that cold outside today! I was at Guelph all morning at the outdoor range playing with my AR. I then went inside to practice pistol. I think I'll take your advice though and bring 3 or 4 times the suggested round count, LOL. I'm looking forward to the match.
