Sako 17 HMR barrel worn out?

Has any one else had their barrel wear out on the Sako 17 HMR? The gun is the Sako Quad but only have the 17 barrel. Shot about 5000 rounds over a two year period.

There may be two problems, to much cleaning = throat wear or not enough = excessive fouling. 5000 rounds isn't much to worry about otherwise. bearhunter

Not my gun but the guy who owns it was cleaning it from the crown end.

Go talk to your buddy and he may have damaged the crown. Not a huge problem to get it re-crowned but there is also a good chance the rifle was never cleaned properly either.
A good proper scubbing and close inspection of the crown will tell the story.
