I just picked one up but have no brass or dies for it. Does anyone know the quickest route to get this gun shooting?
Lapua 220 brass appears the only stuff available. Dies? Sako made factory ammo for it but I cannot locate any.
Just for a range toy, nothing serious.

Thanks!

Norma makes 6PPC USA brass and it will fit the chamber on your Sako (it does on mine). Try bullets with a weight of less than 70 grs. ( the Sako Varmint has a slow twist) and it should shot just fine.

Thanks. I’ll dig around for some of this brass, what dies are best suited to the 6ppc USA chamber in your sako?

Thanks for the loads manitou.

I recommend you stick to Redding dies and Lapua brass. If you're in a real jam for brass let me know.
Grab yourself some N133 or LT32 powder and Fed 205 primers.
Stick to 65g-68g bullets for best results. Berger specifically have always shot the best in any factory PPC rifle I've owned. If you're interested in custom bullets then Stinger Ballistics will set you up. Their bullets are excellent and better than anything you'll buy off the shelf. They are in Alberta.

When you're ready to dive head first into the PPC rabbit hole, be sure to check out benchrestforum.ca. The core group of guys on there are the active competitive benchrest shooters in Canada and all shoot the 6 ppc.

Thanks for the advice hend238. Do you think I can use 220 lapua brass in this chamber without turning the necks? From what I gather online the sako 6ppc USA has a .272 neck.

Ok I just measured my current lot of blue box Lapua brass. Loaded neck O.D. measures .2715" at the bullet pressure ring. The last batch of brass I prepped for a factory rifle I ended taking off .005" for a loaded O.D of .2705" and it wouldn't fit the chamber. The Sakos I've owed have had .270" chamber necks. My current Sako A1 6ppc Sporter certainly does. My old Sako 75 Varminter did as well. YMMV as I'm just going by my notes.

I can offer to give to you my old match brass if you're desperate. The necks are turned for a loaded OD of .2675". I only have 42 cases though. You'll need the technology to size those necks down to at least .266" I run a .264 bushing normally. The brass will be getting hard though and I'm not sure if your standard sizing die will do the job any more.

Do you have the tooling to turn brass? If not then it looks like Lapua brass could be a non starter for you.

Thanks for doing that. No I am not set up for neck turning and was hoping to get away without it in this case. Your experience is what I was hoping to learn from re the lapua brass route and a Sako PPC USA chamber. Thanks for the offer on your old brass. Maybe you could size a few and I could shoot it from this gun to get a neck diameter before I either scour the planet for Norma/Sako brass or dive into turning necks.
Do you, by chance, shoot at rosebud?
Thanks again!

Rosebud? I'm heading there in an hour! I'll bring it with me in case you show up.
