Sako 6PPC USA loading help

Actually, bring your rifle. I still have some unturned cases that are loaded and not fireformed yet. We can test to see if they fit your chamber or not. If they do you can have those too.

Thanks for the brass hend238. Through the process of elimination it appears that this 6PPC USA has a 270 neck and that resized Lapua 220 Russian brass will not work without neck turning. So I can neck turn or find Sako/Norma brass. The journey continues...

Shoots the factory Sako 6ppc USA ammo pretty well. @100 yrds

Nothing wrong with that! Glad to see you’re up and running. Any luck finding dies yet?

Thanks DH.
A basic set of rcbs is on order. They are not labeled 6ppc USA however. I’ll have to do some measuring when I decide to full length size this brass.

The RCBS dies worked well. I loaded some different bullets with some Dominion 2015 powder and BR4 primers.
The 77 gr Lapua seated close to the lands was encouraging. I’ll retry the 70 gr Sierra HPBT seated a bit closer to the lands as well. The 75 and 58 vmax were shot ~20 thou back. The throat isn’t suited to these it seems, there isn’t much bullet in the neck seated out much further.

Fun gun!

I'd recommend diving into neck turning for it and running Lapua 220 Rus. brass as well.
My necks are .265 and I think my turner off the top of my head is a K&M.

I have some Sako and Norma brass kicking around, but not much of it, and it is tough to find. Lapua is actually cheaper and easier to find in bulk (bags of 100).

My go to load is Berger 68gr FB Targets under 26 gr. of H322 and a match primer of choice. IIRC oal is 2.1", but anything around the 65-75 gr. range shoots extremely well in these rifles.

They are a dream to shoot and shoot well, making them an exceptional varmint rifle.
It makes me wonder why it never caught on outside of Benchrest.

Thanks for the suggestion beltfed

I priced out the 220 Russian lapua cases at 177$/100. These sako loaded rounds cost 26$/20. I don’t think you can push the sako brass as hard as the lapua but it got me up and running without a bunch of brass prep. I’m going to see where it takes me. For reference the 28gr of D2015 and a 70gr Sierra was at 3170 fps from a 23” barrel. Pretty similar to the 70gr factory sako loads.

I like what I see with those 77gr Lapua bullets. Especially considering that’s what I have the most of.

I agree, a repeater 6ppc would be a fun field gun.

That Sako brass will preform very well for you. You’ll just be in a lower velocity node. I never saw any meaningful accuracy difference between Sako and neck turned Lapua brass in my factory rifles. The Lapua just allowed me to run velocities at a higher node without ruining the cases. I regret selling all my old Sako brass years ago.
