So I recently acquired a Sako 75 SS in 260 rem. Love the rifle, the balance the fit, the smooth action, the trigger and it shoots lights out. Problem I’m having is with ejecting the empty cases. They keep hitting the scope tube and falling back into the action. Have tried 4 diefferent scopes set at different heights and different positions with the same results. Pull the scope off and the empty cases will fly well clear of the rifle. I can see though that the cases eject pretty much straight up. Is there a fix for this? I know there’s been ejection issues with 85s but didn’t realize 75s were the same. Help greatly appreciated!

Try moving the scope forward or back as your eye relief will allow for. The issues I had with an 85 was the case hitting the turret cap with a very low mounted VXL scope. It was a big, wide scope with 30mm tube. I switched to the lowest ringmounts with a smaller 1' tube and the issue was resolved. Does the case release angle change depending on how fast the bolt is worked?

I’ve tried, a vx3 3-9x40, hd5 with target turrets, and an hd5 with normal turrets. All 1” tune scopes and rings are Leupold one piece in med height but like mentioned in OP I’ve moved the scope forward and back and I’ve also “shimmed” the rings somthe scope sat quite a bit higher. Same issues all the time, he casing isn’t event hitting the turrets, it’s almost hitting the centre of the tube.

Gotta love sako...I'm glad I tried ejecting a spent case in the store before paying for a finnlite with a VX2 4-12 mounted on it.
Same problem.

Rotating the scope 90 degrees is not an acceptable solution in my eyes. With no scope mounted at all it is throwing the empty cases just about straight up. The little marks on the scope as well show it is hitting the tube not the turret.

Did you have a look at the extractor claw? Might be a piece of brass or something stuck in it. If the grip is a bit soft you can replace the extractor spring with another one to grip it a bit more. Let me know if you decide to try the spring and I can tell you where to get it from.

You can sell it to me if it hasnt been ‘molested’ by amateur gunsmiths. I have that exact same model in 308W (same case) and NEVER had this issue — never had it happen with my 75 SS 30/06 but admittedly it has a longer action.

For the record ‘75’s are NOT the same unless someone has screwed around with it —- or someone had a mind to start a rumour in order to push the normal sale prices down - particularly on a desirable calibre such as a 260 Rem. :) Suggest you have your extractor examined and if someone has ‘adjusted/filed the ejector ‘blade’

I’ve owned two 75’s a hunter in .270 that functioned flawlessly and shot tiny little groups. And a 75 stainless synthetic in 300wm that would not eject live or spent rounds reliably. I bought it brand new so it wasn’t a matter of someone tinkering with it. I took it to a gun smith who couldn’t find or suggest a solution. He did inform me that he had seen the issue before and Sako was not accepting it as a flaw so no warranty coverage would apply. I eventually became disgusted with such an expensive rifle being so useless and traded it away.

Maybe that's why we see so many new sako rifles for sale.

Been there and done that, so frustrating. Best bet would be to sell it and buy something that functions. My rifles are all tikkas now, nothing fancy but they share the accuracy of Sako without the issues.

I have a new extractor, plunger and spring coming. The one in it now seems to very week after comparing to others I’ve compared to now. I believe this is causing the ejector to shoot the case straight up instead of the claw holding on to it a bit a shooting it sideways.

Its a know issue.
Some action size and caliber combination works very wells and others not so much.

My 75 Grey-Wolf ( IV action ) in .270 win extract like a charm.

The good news is like other guys told you, it can be fixed.
