sako 75 vs sako 85

The differences between the 75 and the 85 are:

-- 85 has controlled round feed; 75 is push feed. They simply milled away one side of the bolt face rim on the 85 so that the case slides underneath the extractor as it pops out of the magazine rather than the extractor snapping over the case rim as the bolt is cammed closed.

-- 85 has a new stock shape and checkering pattern. The 85 has a straight comb with shadowline cheekpiece and oil type finish to appeal to the current trend back to a more "classic" stock style.

-- 85 has a new bolt shroud shape. No functional difference; only aesthetics.

-- 85 has the new magazine latch mentioned to keep the magazine from being accidentally dumped. Never had a problem with accidental magazine release on the 75, though.

-- 85 supposedly has improved bolt guiding surfaces to improve bolt operation smoothness. 75 bolt was extremely smooth as-is, so if the 85 is smoother, it must be phenomenal.

I have the SAKO 85 in synthetic and S/S it is without a doubt the finest rifle I have used or owned..its feeding is butter..smoooooooth the trigger is crisp with clean break like glass...sudden and unexpected..the rifle balances and hangs perfect..

I have the .338 win mag with 3 piece muzzle brake..quiet and gentle recoil..UNDER THAT OF MY .270..

Its my go to weapon for moose and GRIZZLY bears...and blacks..

I thank all of you for the info. I have 2 sako 75s then. I bought 1 as an 85 and 1 as a 75 and love em both. I guess the seller of the "85" knew as much as I did about them. They are both very accurate and smooth. 1 is a 25-06 finnlight and the other is a 338 win mag. Great quality.

The only correct answer to the posted question is not debatable - it's "10".
Did I get it right?
Actually, I like the 75's better and I don't have a really good reason to say so - just feel better for some reason. But neither of them, any version, can hold a candle to my Tikka (yes, Tikka) M658 7mmRM, finest sporting rifle ever built by Sako IMHO.
