Greetings,

I just recently bought a Sako 85 SS Laminate in 7mm Rem Mag and need to start working up a load for it this summer. I haven't decided between a Hornady162gr SST or a Barnes 160gr TSX for a hunting load.

Any helpful loads or recommendations?

Thanks!

I find the SST is more like a ballistic tip, with fairly fast expansion. If that's what your after, they tend to shoot well. The 7mmRM may be too fast for the SST, but the TSX would hold together on large game.

I never had any luck accuracy wise with SSTs in my 7mm mags.

Either stuck to the reg Hdy sp for deer or an accudond or Nosler part for moose or bear.

I have loaded the TSX with great success as well with RL-22, and took a deer with it a few years back.

Interesting options thus far. I guess I'm looking for the option of being able to use the same round for deer, elk and moose.. without causing too much unnecessary damage on deer.

The 160 TSX is extremely accurate in my Mod. 70 STW. When it was a plain old 7 Mag. it liked 67 Grs. H4831 for 3050. Now it gets 78 7828 for 3300 fps. with the same 24" barrel.
