Sako 85 Bavarian and stock design ?

Does anyone have any experience with the Sako Bavarian model and what are your thoughts on the design of the stock ? How would it compare to the older style Sako 75 for cheek placement when shooting and how does the downward style butt work as for recoil, better the same or worst when it comes to good recoil cartridges? Any info would be appreciated...
 
I personally love this configuration of the 85. What a beautiful stock, very euro, very classy. Sako has also been using some very nicely figured sticks lately. While this stock does appear to have a little more drop at the heel than their "classic" or "deluxe" style stocks I dont think it would make recoil any more objectionable.
 
I was a big fan of the 75 stock(and the AV series before that) and really lamented the loss of the Monte Carlo stock on the 85. Straight stocks just don't fit me as well and wondered about the 85...so I bought one two weeks ago. Here are some pics of it beside my son's 75 Hunter. The cheekpiece is much more prominent on the 75, one the 85 it is unusually shaped almost sloped the wrong way. I think the 75 has more drop at the heel. The 85 has a less pronounced palm swell also.

Here are some pics, pardon the big scrape on the 75, came fron sitting in an unpadded spot on a Bakkie in Africa for ten days in 2007 so I decided not to get it refinished plus it's my son's anyway and he doesn't share my anal retention over that sort of thing.

I would really recommend feeling the Bavaria, it's design makes it feel good offhand
but it can be a bit of a struggle figuring it out from a bench, probably took me 20-30 rounds to make sure I had my head in the same spot.
 
I also thought I would share weight. The 75 is a heavy rifle and the 85 Bavarian isn't far behind.

The 75 hunter 30-06 with opti-lok rings and bases with a Leupold VX11 3x9x40 weighs in at 4.25kg or 9lbs 6 oz.
The 85 with burris rings and bases and a Zeiss conquest 3x9x40 weighs in at 3.95 kg or 8 lbs 11 oz.

I also don't find recoil is significant in either gun and very similar.
 
Thanks guys for the info and a special thanks for the pictures martinbns. This give me a good idea for comparison between the two. That Barvarian sure does look like a classy looking rifle. Now it’s time to decide between the two. The only drawback on the Bavarian is the iron sights for me anyway. Thanks again...
 
We just got in a Barvarian in 30/06; gorgeuos wood. First time I've shouldered one and it fits me well. I'll try for pics this weekend-wood is almost too nice to hunt with :eek:
