Sako 85 Bavarian - any issues?

I have a 85 finnlight in 7mm rem mag, in optilock rings and bases. when I first got it I put mediums rings on it with a burris scope, when I ejected "snap caps" they would hit my turrets almost every time just before the neck of the case and pretty close in on my turret cap. the Burris had some wide caps on it. I got some re-sized spent cases and ejected them no problem. had lots of clearance. changed out the scope dropped to low rings and put on a leupold vx3i they have very narrow turret caps. no problems what so ever....

European's like high mounted scopes, so the low comb is natural to them. We are more accustomed to lower to the bore...

A common reason for that is that many rifles are based on K98 actions and they kept the original safety. Another is there seems to be a preference for larger main tubes and 50mm objective bezels. One of my buds in Finland once told me that many of his hunting buddies all use a Habicht 8X56. Just one man's observation so we can't make a blanket statement that everyone does it.

Something I feel contributes to the ejection issues experienced by some 85 owners is the ridiculous tactical optics that get slapped onto a hunting rifle. Now I have used these types of optics and still own a few after shooting tactical and competition, but they do not really fit with a hunting rifle. Although I posted earlier of never experiencing the ejection issue, on one of my buddy's 85s, I did see cartridges hitting the windage turrets on his trailer park sniper rig. He had some POS vortex with giant turrets. He finally put an actual hunting scope on and he never had any problems.

I've owned two Sako 85's, a Bavarian 300 WSM and the Grizzly 30-06, with absolutely no ejection issues or any other issues. Go purchase that rifle, all Sako models have "always" been great rifles!
