There's rumors that the Sako 85 rifles have been discontinued and a new Sako 90 and Sako 100 actions will be replacing the 85.

Well hopefully they can finally fix the ejection issues that have plagued so many people. And They won't use the optilocks

Good plan. The 85’s were good rifles but like you said, many were terrible at ejecting brass properly. The plunger ejector on the A7 made it a better rifle even with significantly more plastic. Discontinued as well.

Love the Sako actions but agree on the extraction issues, I only saw it on a .338 LM but that is one gun you don't want to have that kind of problem. We'll see what they do and what happens with the S20 action as well. Looking forward to an announcement.

I owned 3 sako 85 and they all had the issue. Is the last one was my carbonlight chambered in 7mm rem mag. $4000 waste of money. Sako engineers I have no idea what they were thinking of when they designed that Model. Supposedly try to build a lightweight gun but use the heaviest recoil lug possible. At that price it should have been made out of titanium not steel

I owned an A7 in 270 win and I won a Finnlite 300wsm in a raffle, neither had ejection issues but I saw the Sako quick fix of very high scope rings, and as a result I decided I would not even consider an 85 unless I could verify proper ejection. It will be interesting to see what they offer now. But I am no longer a Sako fan.

Yes and the way they didn’t handle their issues as turned me off on their products. Sauer is a much better rifle in my opinion. I did keep a couple Sako A7 which I also think is better then the 85. And yes grind off that optilok chunk of useless steel.

I have four 75's. By far my favorites. Have had a few 85's, but no love for them.

They should just bring back the AV action in a hunter model and an all-weather lightweight.

They change actions like none other...

I have been using a finnlight chambered in .300wsm since about 2017. While it doesn't suffer from the,.. ahem.."ejection issue", I can see why it's been discontinued.
The answer to the issue is the extractor tolerances, a different extractor could solve the problems many experience. Rim to bolt-face clearance.
The present problem with the rifle is the stupid goo-touch stock. It will be meeting with Ms. Wirewheel soon enough I'm sure.

I can’t believe the synthetic stocks on the 85s for the price that they go for.

I went with an Aiii in an aftermarket stock (mcmillan). Only complaint is the length of the action paired with the dovetails. I like machined in mounting solutions but prefer the Ruger and CZ options to SAKO for sure.

The top feed box mag on the 85 is the real star of that design. Hoping the new CZ offering works as well.

I’d take a vintage one over 85 or 75 any day.

I liked my A7 but it’s just another euro trash 60 degree pushfeed, dime a dozen. Accurate gun though

I've got an 85 bavarian in 338wm. No issues at all and my dad has an 85 in 270wsm. No issues to report, shot probably 3-400 rounds between the 2 so I won't join in the bashing. They've been absolutely fan-freaking-tastic rifles

Got 85's:

  • .30-06 Bavarian Carbine / Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20mm
  • .300 Win Mag Grey Wolf / Leupold FX-II 6x36mm
  • .375 H&H Mag Kodiak / Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33mm
All eject fine as in this video. Nice rifles.

I do have a 40mm objective mounted low on my model 85 Grisly in 30-06 and works flawlessly, i also have 3 other Sako's in 300WSM, 7MM mag, and a 6.5x55 with no issues what so ever.
I do believe the issue isn't as common as people say, i also believe that there's lots of people repeating the few issues that are there, just like the Remington 700's wich i own a couple and again no issues and some people like to torment Buckmastr about them:)
